The primary duty of the Project Engineer is to take responsibility for contracts from the receipt of order and handover from the Sales team through to successful install and handover. The 3 main deliverables being delivery of a project on time, to the required quality, performance criteria and within budget.
This will involve a close working relationship with the client, and ensuring all internal departments and staff are fully aware of the details of the contract and project timescales.
The project Engineer will be the primary point of contact for the customer throughout the life of the project, up to, and even beyond, the successful close out of the project.
Review the contract prior to the technical handover meeting and check for any conflict between the quotation, acknowledgement of order, any proposal drawings, estimates, and the customer's specifications and expectations.
Assess the risks of the project following on from any points highlighted at tender stage.
Agree a schedule/project plan with the design, Technical, Electrical Engineering and production manager that also fits the customer's schedule, and to ensure that all key dates on this schedule are met. FAIL TO PLAN, PLAN TO FAIL.!
Request specific design requirements with the design office manager and monitor the designs and materials ordering. Where applicable ensure the layout drawings and site specific details are sent to the customer to approve.
Obtain the customers written approval of the designs before the detailed design is done (as and when applicable).
Ensure all items to be purchased that may have a long lead time are pre-ordered in time.
Ensure the project financial milestones are met.
When controls are included ensure that the Electrical Department has sufficient details and time to be able to produce a suitable control system.
When software is included, ensure the specific details are agreed at the software tech handover. Check the software has been written and thoroughly tested with the control panel prior to delivery.
Keep a detailed list of
all
deviations from the quotation and the contract (using a technical query system) as defined at the time of order. Liaise with the Sales Engineer in negotiating all variations, ensuring purchase order cover is received prior to starting work on variations. Any delays in paying to contract or installation dates need to be logged and where applicable re-costed & planned to suit the business needs.
Be available to answer questions from the factory and Design/Technical Departments at all times and ensure there are no delays through lack of information.
Ensure good Communication when on site between all parties.
Photos- ensure completed equipment is photographed for internal records and marketing purposes. This also getting installed photos on completion of the project.
Monitor and liaise with production to ensure manufacturing is proceeding as intended to the timing plan agreed and issued.
Organise internal equipment testing and any FAT required by the contract. Liaise with all departments to ensure resources are available. Ensure all equipment has an official pre-delivery inspection meeting carried out on it.
Invite the customer to inspect the equipment at a time that suits the manufacture. Ensure that delivery arrangements are made and that all relevant parties are informed.
Ensure installation, operation and maintenance manuals including spares lists are prepared as required by UK and worldwide regulation bodies. These must be available and issued before the equipment is handed over to the client.
Plan and organise the installation process. This may include organising & managing subcontractors during installation.
Compile and issue to installation and commissioning teams all required documents for installation, commissioning and sign off. Including RAMS and training log templates
Liaise with commissioning team to ensure the equipment is tested and handed over to the client as required by the contract of the equipment.
Ensure the handover documents are completed and stored on the company network within one week of completing of commissioning. IE: training logs, completion certificate and any customer specific SAT documents.
Offer a technical backup service for the life of the equipment.
At all times it is essential that the Project Engineer is aware of the status of each of their contracts and that all relevant parties are kept informed.
This is an office-based role but will require visits to customer sites. Overnight UK trips, and overseas travel may also be a requirement of this position.
