Overview
We are seeking a skilled and versatile
Project Maintenance Specialist / Technician
to join our hotel's Maintenance Department. This role is responsible for delivering planned capital improvement projects, major maintenance tasks, and renovation support throughout the property. The ideal candidate will excel in non-routine, project-based work, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard while minimising disruption to guests and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Execution and Completion
Lead or support the execution of hotel projects, including guest room renovations, public space upgrades, and system modernisations.
Perform complex, multi-trade maintenance and repair tasks beyond routine daily work.
Coordinate with external contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with schedules, quality expectations, and safety requirements.
Manage and maintain project material inventories to ensure all necessary tools and supplies are available.
2. Specialised Technical Skills
Carpentry:
Advanced framing, drywall installation, finishing, trimming, and millwork, including cabinet or fixture repairs and replacements.
Painting/Finishing:
Large-scale painting, wallpaper installation and repair, and detailed surface preparation.
Plumbing:
Installation of new fixtures, re-piping, and troubleshooting complex water flow or drainage issues related to renovations.
Electrical:
Assist with installing lighting, outlets, and minor circuit modifications under the direction of licensed professionals where required.
3. Operational Support and Safety
Maintain thorough project logs, including work completed, time spent, materials used, and challenges encountered.
Follow all safety procedures, including appropriate PPE use, ladder safety, and lockout/tagout procedures.
Identify opportunities for facility improvements and operational efficiencies.
Support the general maintenance team with complex or time-intensive tasks during periods of low project volume.
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
Vocational training, apprenticeship, or technical certification in a relevant trade (such as carpentry, HVAC, or electrical) is highly preferred.
Experience:
3-5 years of hands-on experience in construction, project-based maintenance, or commercial/hotel renovation work.
Technical Proficiency:
Demonstrable skill in at least two core trades (e.g., carpentry and plumbing, or electrical and drywall).
Project Management:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed project specifications.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work at heights using ladders or lifts, and stand or kneel for extended periods.
Soft Skills:
Strong organisational abilities, excellent attention to detail, and a professional demeanour when working with managers, contractors, and hotel staff.
