Our Route
Central Route sits at the heart of Britain's railway network, covering critical commuter and freight lines in and out of Birmingham. It includes the Chiltern Main Line, the Snow Hill line, the Cross City line, and connections to cities such as Wolverhampton, Coventry, Walsall, and Oxford. Central Route is home to Birmingham New Street station, the busiest outside of London, with over 170,000 passengers daily. This route plays a vital role in supporting the UK's economy and connecting communities.
Brief Description
As a project management assistant, you will provide vital support the project management team in the close out of the civils portfolio in accordance with Project Acceleration in a Controlled Environment (PACE), Network Rail's company standards, and all current applicable legislation including CDM Regulations.

Every day will be different but you will be expected to join our dynamic project team and play a key role in delivering high-quality projects on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and environmental standards. In this role, you will manage, monitor and report on a portfolio of predominantly civil engineering schemes requiring close out, to do this you will be expected to:
Build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders, including the National Records Group (NRG), to ensure smooth project closeouts.
Request and manage Health & Safety file data from NRG to support active project schemes. Coordinate and secure Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs) for H&S files, and prepare Deliverable Document Matrices (DDMs) aligned with project scope.
Lead stakeholder reviews to verify that received H&S and As-Built records are accurate, complete and aligned with approved DDMs before submission to NRG.
Oversee HSQE compliance, ensuring all necessary risk assessments are in place and recorded formally, ensuring prevailing risks are captured within the H&S file and clearly articulated on As Built drawings.
Ensure contractor performance aligns with expectations, contribute to maintaining a safe working environment, and manage site-specific working methods and risk assessments.
Track and report file acceptance from NRG, ensuring timely updates that align with key performance indicators (KPIs).
Capture and share lessons learned from completed projects to drive continuous improvement across the portfolio.
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:
Some management experience including project management.
Educated to HND/HNC or similar standard, preferably within Civil Engineering.
HSQE awareness, issues and principles.
It's not mandatory to have the below, but it would be desirable to have
Membership (or working towards membership of) the Association for Project Management.
A degree or equivalent.
Knowledge of safety, quality, environmental, commercial and financial aspects.
Understanding of possession planning.
Knowledge of the Construction and Design Management (CDM) Regulations, 2015.

Salary: Band 5, Circa 27,000 dependent on experience. Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the pay range advertised.
