A day in the life of an Ascent Project Manager




The Project Manager (Lead) role for the Rear Crew Stage 1 Sustainment (RCS1s) Programme will deliver modifications to the existing aircraft (including test/approval of mission trainer), certification activities to allow aircraft flight and provide support to courseware development for the Rear Crew pipeline of students. Supported by subject matter experts you will be required to plan and deliver the contracted changes.


You will:

Manage aircraft modification, certification and courseware delivery activities as part of the RCS1s programme and ensuring excellent communication with stakeholders Work in partnership with our customer and suppliers, to deliver on time, and in full within budgeted costs. Provide leadership and guidance to the project supporting functions such as commercial, finance and technical experts. Utilising recognised project management tools, develop and maintain a resourced project schedule. Drive performance and progress, reporting programme status against time, quality & cost parameters. Provide programmatic direction for subcontract management; ensure integration of the subcontracts within the overall Ascent Programme. Be the focal point for day-to-day stakeholder interaction. Identify and actively manage risks and opportunities. Assess, develop and agree changes to scope from requirement through proposal and contract change.

You will already have a breadth of project management experience, having run sizable complex projects. You will thrive in developing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and be an excellent communicator.

And you will also:

Be able to demonstrate experience of working in collaboration with cross-functional teams. Understand a bid/capture process. Have strong presentation skills, targeting a wide audience from customers to internal stakeholders. Be able to demonstrate courage and the ability to solve problems and make decisions.

Ideally APM or Prince2 qualified.


Ascent Flight Training was appointed in 2008 to design and deliver a modern and efficient flying training system by the UK MOD.


Created as a joint venture between Lockheed Martin UK AND Babcock International; and is responsible within the UK Military Flight Training System (UKMFTS) for the training design and training delivery that creates the next generation of aircrew.
