Gridserve is a growing IT Managed Services Provider specialising in education and multi-academy trusts. We deliver complex infrastructure projects (cloud migrations, network upgrades, domain consolidations, RBAC, etc.) alongside managed IT support. We are looking for a Project Manager / Team Leader who can bring structure, leadership, and accountability to our project delivery while managing and mentoring a small but highly skilled technical team.
This role combines hands-on project management with day-to-day leadership. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, comfortable engaging directly with customers (SLTs, MAT executives, and IT leads) while also ensuring project teams remain motivated, organised, and aligned to business objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management
Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of IT projects (infrastructure, cloud, and service transition).
Create and maintain project documentation including scope, timelines, budgets, risk registers, and progress reports.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.
Liaise with clients to capture requirements, manage expectations, and provide regular updates.
Team Leadership
Line-manage and mentor technical staff (currently a team of three project engineers).
Provide day-to-day leadership, ensuring workloads are balanced and priorities are clear.
Introduce and embed structured project management practices (Agile/PRINCE2-lite appropriate to SME scale).
Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Process and Governance
Implement reporting processes for both internal management and customer updates.
Support the development of standard operating procedures for project delivery.
Contribute to resource planning and recruitment of additional team members.
Work closely with Directors to align projects with Gridserve's strategic goals.
Skills and Experience
Proven experience in project management within IT services (consultancy or MSP background preferred).
Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and direct small teams.
Excellent stakeholder management, especially with non-technical senior leaders (e.g. Headteachers, CEOs, SLTs).
Familiarity with Microsoft environments (O365, AD, Hyper-V, Azure) and infrastructure delivery.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
Formal PM qualifications (PRINCE2, PMP, Agile) desirable but not essential - practical experience and results matter more.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced SME where flexibility and initiative are key.
