Role Overview
LOCKROSE is seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex construction projects within the energy sector. You will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle, from planning and procurement to execution and project close-out, ensuring alignment with client objectives, regulatory standards and sustainability goals. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact infrastructure projects that contribute to the UK's energy transition and net-zero ambitions.
We are particularly interested in professionals with proven experience in HV cable systems, overhead lines (OHL), and substations, who are ready to lead high-impact projects and contribute to the development of critical UK energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship & Stakeholder Management
Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with customers and stakeholders throughout all stages of project delivery.
Act as a trusted representative of the company, demonstrating competence and commitment to organisational values and SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) policies.
Programme & Delivery Management
Establish and maintain a robust, high-quality programme of works across the project lifecycle.
Interpret and manage the programme to oversee critical path activities, coordinate workstreams, and track key material deliveries optimising resource utilisation and ensuring timely delivery.
Financial Control & Governance
Implement effective financial controls to provide full visibility of project expenditure and enable accurate cost interrogation at any stage.
Support the investment process during pre-construction, delivery, and closure phases, ensuring governance and compliance with internal standards.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, motivate, and empower the project team to achieve milestones and objectives.
Provide clear guidance on roles and responsibilities, reinforce the importance of individual contributions, and celebrate achievements to maintain engagement and morale.
Lead by example, demonstrating outstanding behaviours aligned with company culture and values.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, CDM Regulations, Environmental legislation, and National Grid standards.
Act as Client's Delegated Representative and, where required, fulfil the role of Principal Designer or arrange appropriate provision under CDM Regulations.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
Deliver accurate and timely project status reports, including financial forecasts, SHESQ performance, milestone progress, and risk management data.
Support contract administration under NEC or equivalent frameworks.
Requirements
Extensive project management experience within the high voltage sector (up to 400 kV)
Proven expertise in cables, overhead lines (OHL), and substations
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary projects from inception to completion
Eligibility to work in the UK and flexibility to travel across the region
Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of energy construction projects (e.g., renewables, substations, grid infrastructure).
Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk registers.
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including engineers, contractors, and consultants.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Engage with stakeholders including clients, regulators, and local authorities.
Monitor project performance and report progress to senior leadership.
Drive continuous improvement and innovation in project delivery.
Conduct post-project reviews and lessons learned sessions.
Competent with the administration of engineering contracts, such as FIDIC, and NEC3 / NEC4.
About You (Skills & Experience)
Skills
Strong leadership and stakeholder management.
Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, Asta).
Knowledge of UK energy regulations and construction standards.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
Technical Knowledge (desirable)
High Voltage (HV) underground cable systems (design, routing, terminations, civils interfaces).
Overhead lines (OHL) (routeing, structures, foundations, environmental constraints, outages).
Substations (AIS/GIS equipment, protection & control, civil and structural interfaces, grid compliance).
Experience
Assistant Project Manager: 1-3 years in construction or energy project support roles.
Project Manager: 3-7 years in project management, ideally in energy or infrastructure.
Senior Project Manager: 7+ years with proven leadership of large-scale energy projects/ programmes
Education
Bachelor's degree in either Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Energy Systems, or any other related field
Master's degree or MBA (desirable for senior roles)
Certifications & Memberships
Project Management Qualification (APM PMQ), PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent.
Membership of relevant professional bodies (APM, PMI, ICE, CIOB, RICS).
Health & Safety certifications (SMSTS, NEBOSH, IOSH), or equivalent.
