The Climate Action Unit (CAU) is a dynamic group with diverse skills sets based in the Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MAPS) Faculty at UCL. The CAU works to change how scientists, policymakers, businesses, media, civil society organisations and citizens engage with each other and act on climate change. We work with a wide range of organisations including the National Trust, philanthropic organisations, government departments and the IPCC. We work in a fast-paced environment, adapting our approaches to the needs of our partners, and using our expertise to help them solve some of their most intractable climate action challenges.
About the Role
------------------
We are looking for an adaptable and enthusiastic Project Manager for a 10-month maternity cover position. The Project Manager is the lynchpin of the unit; providing coordination for all our operations and supporting our future development. The postholder acts as the primary connection with UCL's administrative and operational systems, practices and teams which enables the successful management of the CAU's finances, HR and contracting activities. In addition to this, the Project Manager delivers a critical portfolio coordination function for the unit; working across the varied projects in our portfolio. The postholder will support Project Leads to manage individual projects effectively, ensuring that the right resources are in place across appropriate timelines. They will also work closely with the Directors of the CAU and the board in an advisory capacity. They will also develop and share a view of the entire portfolio, offering insight into potential scheduling and resourcing challenges. Please note this is a fixed-term role until 16th September 2026. This post will be offered as a Secondment to UCL internal candidates.
About You

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or have equivalent professional experience. You will combine experience in project management, administration, stakeholder management and financial oversight. You will have developed these abilities (to some extent) while working in a higher education setting. You will have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability make and carry out decisions, liaise with professionals inside and outside of UCL, and manage the expectations of others. You will have the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities while maintaining a close attention to detail. You will also have the confidence working within and supporting a team of project staff. You will have the ability to manage multiple projects and foresee future challenges; providing an important supporting role to the Climate Action Unit's Directors. You will have knowledge of and technical skills in web content management systems. You will be able to demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills. It would be desirable to have experience working with the operational systems widely-used in academic settings, such as Axiom, Worktribe and Oracle. It would also be desirable to have experience of scoping and administering new projects, including contracting phases. Experience of working within an organisation focused on climate change is desirable but not essential.
