The SMCA, a small charity, runs a successful community hub. We have a small staff team who deliver a range of exciting activities, events and projects. We work hard to ensure that there is something on offer for everyone in the community and are constantly developing new and exciting programmes.
We are looking for an exceptional individual to join us. Experience in community development, working with children and young people or seniors is welcomed, but most importantly is willingness to get involved, confidence to lead on some activities and projects, and a flexible approach - our days are often full of unforeseen tasks/actions that need to be carried out.
You need to be a great communicator and really enjoy working with people as you will most likely be the first contact point for all visitors to the centre, so your enthusiasm, professionalism and welcoming approach is essential.
You will receive a thorough induction, regular support sessions and be involved in team meetings. We offer a well-being package and access to training.
As a community centre, we have regular contact with people from diverse backgrounds, of all ages and abilities. We need people who can respond positively to individuals' needs, who can multi-task, paying close attention to accuracy and detail and who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves to get things done.
You will have had some experience of managing projects, running workshops, planning and delivering activities. Experience of monitoring, evaluations and data collection is also a requirement of the role. Awareness and understanding of Safeguarding practices is essential throughout all aspects of the role.
It is likely that our projects/activities will grow, so we are seeking individuals who are able to work with change, who can give informed suggestions and ideas on projects and activities, can adapt and be flexible and grow a sense of commitment and care for the community centre and the work we are trying to achieve.
Experience of promotion and marketing (design, productions) will be useful, as will experience in using and editing social media platforms and websites. You will become the SMCA promotions Guru.
You will be a keyholder and be responsible for checking the building during your session, paying attention to Health and Safety, cleanliness and hygiene and supporting the groups/individuals using the centre during your shift.
Punctuality and reliability are essential requirements of this role as are good communication skills.
You will be responsible for setting up rooms to meet the needs of projects, for stock taking and audits of equipment and resources. You will be involved in supporting the delivery of activities and projects.
