CAST carries out a significant amount of land based and conservation work in both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. This work may be for local authorities, schools, or private landowners. Our expectation is that all of our work is carried out to a professional standard, inspires the skills development of our students, and enhances the project profile. It is a legacy that our students and ourselves leave for communities and individuals to use and enjoy. We often fund materials for this work ourselves through CAST.
Your role will be to lead the CAST team in terms of and development of construction teaching, work, and skills, whether that is construction based, environmental improvements, or land management. You will be delivering both classroom sessions and practical project work. Your role will also include working with the team and clients to identify project work which will be suitable for our students and create a lasting impact for the environment, people, and wildlife
To support the work of the CAST Team in the delivery of the CAST Angling Project.
To plan, prepare lead and deliver construction courses delivered by CAST in both classroom and practical settings. These may be classroom sessions focusing on BTEC/City & Guilds or outdoor practical sessions carrying out, construction or land based activities possibly angling projects.
To provide, direct and monitor learning support for young people in classroom sessions and practical delivery sessions for the construction, angling and/or land based activities.
To manage the work of Classroom Assistants, apprentices and /or volunteers. Including the development of schemes of learning or session plans.
To plan and manage practical work projects with Tutors and students, ensuring an efficiently run and professional piece of work is completed.
To complete schemes of learning, reports, monitoring, risk assessments and student pathway support as and when required.
To support the development of construction skills within the Tutor team, sourcing and/or delivering training to ensure our Tutors are able to confidently carry out construction based work.
To assist in the development work of other project activities and support other CAST staff and volunteers.
To organise and facilitate relevant educational visits and trips.
To assist in the development of courses, practical projects and learning resources.
To inspire, guide and manage student behaviour.
To carry out lesson planning and preparation for existing courses and to support the development of new courses and in line with auditable standards.
To play an active part in the maintenance of CAST policies and procedures.
To play an active role in the maintenance of CAST resources and equipment.
To play an active part in the recording, maintenance and monitoring of the Safeguarding Children Policies and Procedures and to attend internal and external meetings in relation to protecting children and in agreement with your line manager.
To comply with all CAST Policies and Procedures.
To undertake training and continuous professional development, as recommended or required.
To understand and act responsibly in all aspects of the Health and Safety Policies relating to the CAST project across all settings.
To facilitate and develop partnership work through the development of project activities, possibly in new areas of work, which enhance the profile of CAST and benefit varied communities.
To provide a favourable image of the project at all times to the public, partners, learners and customers.
To uphold accepted professional standards applicable to an organisation working within the education sector.
Any other duties which may reasonably be considered to come under the remit of the post.
Person Specification
Essential
Experience of work in the construction sector.
A willingness to lead lesson delivery across a variety of construction settings and subject areas.
Gained a level 3 or equivalent qualification in construction.
A patient and tolerant outlook in relation to working with young people.
A desire to support the development of students and young people.
Prior experience or subject knowledge in Construction, Land Based Studies, Landscaping, Conservation or Angling.
Full driving license.
Experience of managing, reporting and monitoring challenging behaviour
Experience of working as part of a team for a common goal as well as under your own initiative as needed.
Be calm and supportive at all times and particularly when under pressure and when delivering frontline support.
Good spoken and written communication and practical skills on all levels
Be honest, reliable and trustworthy and present a good image of CAST at all times.
Experience of developing and maintaining new partnerships and an understanding of the importance of partnership working.
An ability to appraise and evaluate learners' progress, i.e. session reviews, pupil's records and more formal monitoring reports.
A knowledge of and commitment to Health and Safety, Risk Assessments and Equal Opportunities policies and procedures.
Able to work flexibly, identifying and responding to the needs of individual learners and for the best educational outcomes.
A working knowledge and proven competency in understanding educational developments and implementing these where necessary.
IT competent particularly MS office and Internet based resources.
A commitment and desire to undertake training and improve as a practitioner in working with young people.
Desirable
Experience of working with young people from vulnerable and difficult to engage groups.
Qualified First Aider.
D1 minibus license.
