Project Managers at Linklaters sit within our Business Teams function which supports and enables our lawyers to deliver best in class services to our clients. We work with the firm to implement business, process, and technology changes, often all three within the same project.

It is a dynamic role that involves working with people at all levels across the firm to achieve a set goal. Projects, regardless of their size, are time and/or budget specific pieces of work and so have clear parameters for success. Projects at Linklaters are fast paced, and no two days are the same. Project Managers are often exposed to new people, new ideas, new technologies and new problems with every project.

If you are the start of your career this is an exciting and diverse role that will help you develop a wide range of transferrable skills. As an apprentice you will be enrolled on the at the BPP school. You will be supported to complete your studies and prepare for taking the - all whilst working alongside, learning and being guided by our experienced team of projects and change professionals!

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help to create project business cases, setting out why we should do this project.
  • Help people identify and analyse their business problems and draw out the requirements needed to resolve them.
  • Help to identify of the scope of the project and requirements that it will deliver. E.g., mapping current and future working processes.
  • Taking responsibility for planning specific pieces of work like identifying activities required to deliver something and how these can be achieved within the timeframe and people available.
  • Help the project to understand the people (stakeholders) that are required to help in some way for it to be a success. Help devise communications plans and key messages that support the project\xe2\x80\x99s work and objectives.
  • Helping people to understand and adopt the change that is being created by the project (change management) E.g., supporting the delivery of training.
  • Help the project manage risk by identifying things that could go wrong and helping plan activities that will reduce their occurrence or effect. When things do go wrong, help the project to resolve the issue and bring it back on track.
  • Supporting procurement when it is required. E.g., market scans, buying products and services, contract signoffs and payment tracking
  • Help to manage the project finances by assisting in creating project budgets and updating cost plans as the project plans and spends its money.
  • Support project learning through capturing key lessons during the project. Following up actions to make sure learning is taken on board and at the end of the project collating all lessons into the project closure report.
  • Organising and supporting key project meetings, taking minutes, and recording and tracking decisions and actions. Supporting production of project reports e.g., fortnightly status reports.
  • Maintaining project documents through setting up and maintaining folder structures; uploading documents and sharing.
  • Work with members of the team to continually refine the team\xe2\x80\x99s project and change management best practice methods and materials.
Your skills:
  • Great personal organisation skills. Able to identify and deliver the most important task effectively.
  • Able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. E.g., writing succinctly while being clear in what you are asking of people
  • Willingness to own \xe2\x80\x98tasks\xe2\x80\x99 and be accountable for their completion.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail e.g. good numeracy, ability to sift through and analyse information and produce convincing conclusions.
  • A proactive and learning mindset and willingness to ask questions.
  • Comfortable using MS Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Team player, inclusive and sensitive to team dynamics
When will the role start?
  • You will start in Autumn 2023, with your course commencing in January 2024.
Duration of the apprenticeship:
  • 24 months\' duration.
What is the work/study pattern?
  • 1 day study; 4 days office based per week
Qualifications to be obtained at the end of the programme:
  • APM Project Management Qualification
Eligibility criteria:
  • Grade C or above in 5 GCSE\xe2\x80\x99s including English and Maths
  • 48+ UCAS points or equivalent
  • Must not hold previous Project Management qualifications
