Job Description


The Projects Officer (Imperial Policy Forum) will join the Public Affairs Division to support the delivery of an exciting programme of work to raise the profile and understanding of our world-class academic research with policymakers. You will play a key role in supporting Imperial\xe2\x80\x99s strategic goal \xe2\x80\x98to inform decision makers and influence policy\xe2\x80\x99. You will work closely with the colleagues in the Public Affairs team to ensure that political communications expertise is available for our academic community to maximise impact and influence. You will achieve this through designing and delivering projects that enable senior policy-makers to interact with and develop a better understanding of our world-class research and innovation offerings and provides cross-College support for academic staff through a range of outputs, including events and communication materials. This will include the Imperial Fellowships programme for senior civil servants, which was piloted in Spring 2023 and which will expand in coming years. As a member of the Public Affairs Division, you will help to achieve widespread understanding of the College\xe2\x80\x99s mission, vision and aims, and assist in building and maintaining the College\xe2\x80\x99s reputation.

Duties and responsibilities

You will working with the Imperial Policy Forum Programme Manager and Strategic Communications Manager to deliver a range of strategic projects that connects Imperial academics and key policymakers. These projects will include the Imperial Fellowships programme for senior civil servants which launched in Spring 2023, and which will expand in coming years to include Fellows from other sectors. You will do this through building strong internal networks within Imperial\xe2\x80\x99s Departments and Institutes and external networks such as think tanks, government departments etc. You will also advise on and implement strategies that ensure consistent engagement of policymakers with the College, including through events, visits and communications.

Essential requirements


  • Experience of working in a communications, policy or public affairs environment.
  • Experience of managing projects from start to evaluation
  • An understanding of the policymaking process and the workings of government, as well as an interest in scientific research and its relation to policy
  • Outstanding written, proofing and editing skills and the ability to convey messages in a clear and compelling way, tailored according to the audience
