Projects & Planning Manager (bespoke Machinery Manufacturing)

Cheltenham, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

ALS Mechatronic

specialise in the design, build and installation of bespoke control systems, factory automation systems including manufacturing process and packaging machinery, conveyors, robotics and vision inspection.

We are located in a 30,000 square foot factory just outside Winchcombe in North Gloucestershire, employing ~40 people.

In this role, you will be bringing our customers' automation aspirations to life, working across a variety of industry sectors (predominantly in food and beverage and plastic container handling) and working on some truly ground-breaking projects.

A lot of what we do is typically bespoke to our customers and to date there's not been an automation challenge we've not been able to support or that we have walked away from. Our diverse project portfolio means there's no standard production lines to work or manage, which is why we only employ 'solutioneers'.

What's really important is the energy and attitude you bring to the role. We're looking for a motivator, a timekeeper, a project manager, a resource planner, a quality manager all in one! This is not a role for the faint-hearted! We're busy and growing rapidly so this is an exciting time to join us and work with a great bunch of people!

The role:

You will organise and communicate with ease managing multiple, complex multi-million machinery automation projects at any one time, dealing with or scheduling the 'what, where, who, how and why'. Direct industry background is not essential so long as you understand and can evidence what's needed to deliver sizable, complex and unique solutions on time, on budget.

You will have oversight across two manufacturing dependencies: parts fabrication and machine build (mechanically and electrically) along with three direct reports: the workshop manager, fabrication team leader and machine shop supervisor.

Core responsibilities include:

Implement effective quality management procedures to ensure everything the team touches is built to the highest standards possible in a timely fashion Making sure FATs are conducted effectively and the workshop is clean and tidy and ready for VIP (all customers) Managing and maintaining lessons learned with relevant actions, to ensure continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle and attending project wrap-up meetings Leading and supporting the workshop manager, fab team leader and machine shop supervisor Managing staff ongoing performance and conducting annual and 6 month performance reviews and making pay increase recommendations Ensuring your direct reports' teams consistently and accurately log and submit their project timesheets to ensure end of project P&L reporting is accurate Reading daily site reports from the teams out on-site regarding work completed, outstanding, and any non-conformities (to understand if re-work is necessary)
