WHAT TO EXPECT

As part of JLRs on going commitment to electrification of vehicles the Pilot operations team are responsible for the creation of pilot EDU and batteries. To achieve this the department compile assembly processes both automated and manual in nature. The focus of these processes being to prove and improve the methods required in the manufacture of EDUs and Batteries with a heavy focus on data collection required during pilot component testing

Within a small team the Engineering Operations, Controls Engineer is responsible for all aspects of project based controls engineering, from project conception support, through to machine modifications and support.

As part of their daily tasks they will be required to support the Project engineers and Build engineers in the specification and selection of new equipment. The controls engineer will need to be able to create new and modify current robot programs PLCs HMI structure and drives to ensure that we improve our current machines.

The engineer will be expected to be the single point of contact for technical machinery controls systems, interacting with vendors, assisting where necessary to achieve a robust solution to be handed over the Engineering Operation production team.

WHAT YOU\'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Support in the creation of Pilot team controls standards.
  • Creation and modification of ABB robot programs
  • Detailed investigations into robot cell feasibilities for future developements
  • Continuous improvement of production machinery.
  • Creation of new robot programs gluing welding and handling pilot components.
  • Creation of manuals and documentation to support the hand over of facilities to a production environment
  • Ownership of machinery controls, to ensure flexibility and throughput demands are met, for a low volume high
  • Robust testing of facilities, including modifications made
  • Definition of IT interface deliverables
  • Protocol definitions for data tracking
  • Support maintenance teams development and learning
  • Provision of technical support to the team in order to meet and exceed output targets.
  • Ensuring that they maintain high levels of valid technical competency and have provision of personal development plan.
  • Mentoring and Training of those in Early Careers and Training as appropriate.
WHAT YOU\'LL NEED

Essential :
  • Controls based qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Strong ABB robot programming knowledge including IO interface
  • Problem solving and solution creation
  • Significant experience in automotive manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of IEC 61131
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and Excel competency to produce plans, reports, presentations, graphs,
  • Ability to mentor and train others
  • A full valid UK Driving Licence
