PSV Engineer

to join our team.

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Engineer to join our team. This role is vital to ensuring the continued safe operation and maintenance of our fleet in line with Golden Tours and DVSA standards. The ideal candidate will have expertise in vehicle maintenance, fault diagnosis, and a commitment to improving vehicle reliability. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of service delivery and ensuring all vehicles are ready for service. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and repair of our fleet of buses and coaches working closely with our operations team to ensure all vehicles meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards, guaranteeing that our customers experience safe and reliable travel services.

This role involves working on a 4-day-on, 4-day-off shift pattern, including 12-hour shifts with early and late duties. The role also includes bank holiday work, including Christmas Day when scheduled. On occasions, there may be an event that you will be required to attend outside of these hours. The role dictates a large amount of independence.

Key Responsibilities:



Maintenance and repairs:



Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs on buses and coaches to ensure optimal vehicle performance. Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and technical issues, identifying effective solutions to maintain vehicle safety and reliability. Repair or replace faulty components, including engines, brakes, suspension, and electrical systems, ensuring all work meets company and regulatory safety standards. Adhere to all relevant safety regulations and company procedures when performing maintenance and repairs.

Vehicle performance and safety:



Conduct servicing, maintenance, and repairs on vehicles to meet Golden Tours and DVSA standards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Perform MOT preparation, planned preventative maintenance, and quality checks to ensure the vehicles' continued reliability and safety. Continuously assess and improve vehicle reliability and performance, addressing faults promptly to maintain high standards. Provide assistance to drivers with vehicle departures, diagnosing and resolving any issues that may arise. Communicate effectively with the Traffic Office regarding vehicle performance, service disruptions, or any issues affecting company operations. Ensure vehicles are parked and stored appropriately to avoid blocking roads and maintain garage cleanliness and order. Supervise and assist with cleaning, shunting, and bus wash operations, ensuring proper vehicle care and addressing related issues when necessary. Report incidents, accidents, and personal injuries within the garage, ensuring prompt and appropriate action is taken and recorded.

Documentation and reporting:



Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, inspections, and repairs performed on each vehicle, ensuring thorough documentation of defects and corrective actions. Prepare detailed reports on vehicle conditions, service schedules, and work completed for management review. Assist with inventory management, ensuring availability of necessary parts, tools, and materials required for vehicle maintenance and repairs. Review vehicle defect cards and ensure corrective actions are taken, with proper documentation on engineering sheets.

Customer service and operational support:



Collaborate with fleet management and other departments to schedule maintenance, minimising operational disruptions. Provide technical support and guidance to drivers and operational staff on vehicle-related issues. Assist with troubleshooting and resolving problems during service disruptions or vehicle breakdowns to ensure timely operations. Communicate effectively with team members via group chats, responding promptly to queries and updating relevant information.

Requirements:



Level 2 or 3 NVQ qualification in Engineering or equivalent. Strong knowledge of PSV or HGV maintenance. A solid understanding of engineering procedures and health & safety legislation. Experience in the inspection of vehicles for scheduled maintenance. Proficiency in electrical circuits and systems. A Full UK driving license (6 points or fewer). Ability to pass the PCV pre-employment medical.
