Psychological Strengths Based Practitioner

Job Description

To provide high-quality, strengths-based psychological support to individuals living with complex mental health challenges. The practitioner will offer one-to-one support, facilitate group work and community-based activities, and play a key role in co-producing services with clients. The role promotes recovery, resilience, and community connection through psychologically informed and empowering approaches.

The role of Psychological Strengths-based Practitioner is a fundamental role within our mental health team. We work with individuals with complex needs, and our clients have diverse life experiences and backgrounds. Key Responsibilities



1. Direct Client Support



Provide individual, tailored 1-to-1 psychological support using strengths-based and recovery-oriented methods. Collaboratively assess needs, goals, and strengths, and co-develop support or wellbeing plans with clients. Use psychologically informed techniques (e.g., CBT-informed approaches, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed practice) to promote wellbeing and self-management.

2. Group Facilitation



Plan and facilitate therapeutic, skills-based, and social groups that promote connection, resilience, and wellbeing. Create inclusive, psychologically safe group environments that build confidence, insight, and hope.

3. Community Engagement and Activities



Plan and deliver community activities and events to foster inclusion, creativity, and social participation. Support clients in accessing community resources, activities, and peer support.

4. Co-production and Service Development



Work closely with clients to co-design and co-produce new services, groups, and initiatives. Facilitate involvement and feedback from service users at every stage of planning and delivery.

5. Multi-Agency and Partnership Working



Attend multi-agency meetings (e.g., MDTs, safeguarding meetings) to ensure coordinated and person-centred support. Liaise with statutory and voluntary sector partners to ensure continuity of care and timely access to additional services.

6. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting



Maintain accurate, confidential client records using appropriate systems. Monitor progress and outcomes using tools such as recovery star, feedback, and case studies. Contribute to regular impact reports and service evaluations, sharing learning and areas for improvement.

7. General Responsibilities



Actively participate in supervision, reflective practice, training, and team meetings. Uphold safeguarding responsibilities, confidentiality, and data protection at all times. Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and trauma-informed team culture. Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required within the scope of the role.

Person Specification



KNOWLEDGE



Strengths-based approaches in mental health practice and recovery-oriented care.

Mental health conditions, co-occurring behaviours, and neurodiversity

Impact measurement tools or processes

The principles of safeguarding adults and children

Psychological theories relevant to complex mental health conditions, including trauma-informed care, attachment theory, and cognitive-behavioural models.

The impact of social determinants on mental health and wellbeing

Legislation relevant to mental health care (e.g., Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act)

Risk assessment and management in the context of mental health

EXPERIENCE



At least 2 years, post qualification experience working with adults experiencing complex and enduring mental health difficulties

Experience applying strengths-based and recovery-focused approaches in clinical or community settings.

Experience of involving people with lived experience in service delivery and care planning

Experience in delivering structured psychological or psychosocial interventions 1-2-1 and/or in groups

An understanding of crisis management and the ability to deal with life threatening situations including suicide prevention

Experience of monitoring, evaluation and reporting

Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team

SKILLS AND ABILITIES



Ability to manage and prioritize a complex caseload

Ability to build therapeutic relationships based on trust, collaboration, and empowerment.

Competence in delivering psychological interventions tailored to individual strengths and needs (e.g., CBT-informed, DBT skills, solution-focused approaches)

Confidence in using de-escalation techniques and responding to crisis situations.

Skills in collaborative care planning and goal setting with service users

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with service users, families, and professionals

Proficient IT and record-keeping skills, including use of electronic health records and outcome measures

Strong reflective practice and self-awareness

QUALIFICATIONS



A relevant professional qualification in mental health (e.g., psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, counselling).

Training in trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing, or systemic approaches

Evidence of continuing professional development in areas relevant to complex mental health needs

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: 31,500.00 per year

Expected hours: 15 per week
