Job Description

Are you a registered clinical or counselling psychologist or a CBT therapist with experience working in an acute hospital environment using CBT/ ACT/ CFT approaches?



We are looking for a Band 7 0.8 wte Clinical/ Counselling psychologist to work in our Sutton hospital site in our 'directive' pathway (e.g. CBT/ ACT/ CFT approaches. EMDR would be a plus). As well as direct inpatient and outpatient work, this role will also include supervision to nurses/AHPs within the trust, psychological consultation to medical and rehabilitation teams, and service development.

To work within our 'directive' pathway providing structured therapies such as CBT/ ACT/ CFT (our other pathways are: exploratory, family, psychiatry/ mental health nursing)



Provide a high quality specialist clinical/ counselling psychologist/CBT therapy service to adult cancer patients within the context of the Adult Psychological Support Service, including assessment and evidence based interventions associated with the complex physical and psychological impacts of a cancer diagnosis.



Work autonomously, within professional guidelines, code of conduct and the overall framework of the team/trust policies and procedures.



Provide specialist advice and consultation on patients' psychological care to colleagues through psychosocial meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings and attendance at clinics if appropriate.



Utilize research skills for audit, policy and development of psychological services for patients with cancer



Develop, organize, and deliver specialist psychological education and training for multi-professionals caring for individuals impacted by cancer; and patients and their carers as required by The Royal Marsden Trust in collaboration with other colleagues.



Offer, where appropriate, clinical supervision to attached trainee psychological practitioners, assistant psychologists working the team, clinical nurse specialists/ other members of health care team as appropriate.

To work as a clinician in the delivery of a psychology service to the Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Trust, working directly and indirectly with patients, and with members of the multi-disciplinary team involved in the care of cancer patients, to improve patients' psychological wellbeing, quality of life and coping strategies.



To provide specialist psychological assessments for patients referred to the Adult Psychological Support Service and make decisions about support options taking into account the individual needs and choice of the patient, their clinical treatment, prognosis and resources available; referring on to the most appropriate specialists if required.



To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to formulation, diagnosis and development of a psychological care treatment plan. To contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings across tumour sites and clinical services where appropriate, develop relationships with medical teams and offer supervision where appropriate.



You will be joining a supportive and friendly team of qualified and trainee psychological practitioners from across a range of clinical backgrounds, including, counselling, psychology (clinical and counselling), psychosexual therapy, psychotherapy, psychiatry and mental health nursing. There is excellent internal and external CPD provision.
