Purpose of the Role
To provide psychological support and therapeutic interventions to children and young people aged 16-17 in care and supported accommodation. The role focuses on promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience, and trauma recovery through evidence-based approaches such as
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
and
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
, in line with
Ofsted's Quality Standards
and the

Key Responsibilities
Therapeutic Support
Deliver individual and group therapy sessions using CBT/DBT and trauma-informed approaches.
Conduct psychological assessments and contribute to care/support planning.
Support young people in managing emotional regulation, anxiety, and behavioural challenges.
Safeguarding & Compliance
Ensure all therapeutic work aligns with
Ofsted's Protection Standard (Regulation 5)
and
Support Standard (Regulation 7)
.
Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with
Regulation 24
.
Participate in safeguarding reviews and contribute to risk assessments.
Staff Support & Training
Provide training and reflective practice sessions for staff on mental health, trauma-informed care, and behaviour management.
Support psychologically informed environments (PIEs) across services.
Multi-Agency Collaboration
Work closely with CAMHS, social workers, education providers, and other professionals.
Attend care planning and review meetings, offering psychological insights and recommendations.
Monitoring & Evaluation
Contribute to
Quality of Support Reviews (Regulation 32)
.
Use feedback from young people and staff to improve therapeutic approaches and outcomes.
Person Specification
Essential
Degree in Psychology (with postgraduate training or experience in CBT/DBT).
Experience working with children and young people in care or supported accommodation.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and safeguarding.
Knowledge of
The Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023
and Ofsted inspection frameworks.
Desirable
HCPC registration or working towards chartered status.
Experience in residential care or supported living environments.
Familiarity with youth justice, education, or therapeutic settings.
