Job overview




An exciting opportunity has arisen for appropriately qualified counsellors, (trained and experienced in one of the three Talking Therapies approved counselling modalities (CFD, CTFD, IPT) along with significant experience of working within a Talking Therapies service) to apply for a post as Psychotherapeutic Counsellor within the NHS Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression service.



Please note that these posts will be based across the three main operational localities of North/East Cornwall, Mid Cornwall and West Cornwall. Post holders will be expected to undertake a blended approach to delivery of therapy, offering both online video appointments and in-person face-to-face appointments.




Main duties of the job




To provide a qualified specialist psychological therapy service for anxiety and depression to clients from the NHS Talking Therapies service. This involves providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy, within one or more psychological therapy models specified by the NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression Manual.

To provide advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to colleagues, other healthcare professionals and to other, non-professional carers. It will involve supervision and the contribution to the learning of other colleagues including trainee High Intensity Therapists training in a relevant Talking Therapies modality, as well as trainees from other professional groups as appropriate.

The post holder works autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

Where this is development post completing training at Band 6, to attend and fulfil the requirements of the training to include supervision from educational providers in relation to the coursework, achieving the essential Psychotherapeutic Counsellor qualifications as detailed in the person specification.

Master's level qualification or equivalent, to include a minimum two-year post-graduate (or equivalent) qualification in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Psychotherapy, Counselling, or Counselling Psychology, comprising no less than 450 hours programme contact and no less than 450 hours supervised counselling or psychotherapy practice (including hours gained after core training) One or more NHS Talking Therapies specified counselling or psychotherapy accreditations (as detailed in the NHS Talking Therapies Manual): British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited; United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) or Registered as a Psychotherapist or Psychotherapeutic Counsellor; Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) Accreditation; National Counselling Society (NCS) Accredited Professional registrants, British Psychoanalytic Council Registered. #

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients within an NHS Talking Therapies service Experience of working with a variety of client groups and presenting problems that reflect a range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
