As an analyst within the Observatory and Cancer Analysis Team, you will apply a range of statistical and analytical techniques to interpret complex public health data, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely, and aligned with the Code of Practice for Statistics. You will collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to develop and deliver high-quality reports, dashboards, and data visualisations that inform decision-making and improve population health outcomes. You will also engage with users to understand their data needs, translating them into actionable insights through reproducible analytical pipelines and evidence-based recommendations. Responsibilities and Duties Data Analysis and Interpretation Contribute to the development and maintenance of reproducible analytical pipelines. Apply good practice in coding, testing, and version control. Liaising with senior colleagues to work with users and other stakeholders to understand the underlying question and apply your knowledge to plan the appropriate approach to the analysis.



The postholder should approach problem solving and data and analytical challenges creatively and proactively, working with stakeholders to deliver value. Understanding when to bring in additional expertise or escalation and able to resolve common data, analysis and technology issues. Apply specialist knowledge in areas such as cancer analysis, child heights and weight, Public Health Outcomes Framework underpinned by theoretical principles. Use this expertise to interpret complex datasets and generate insights that inform public health decision-making.



Data Quality and Governance Extract and assess data from multiple sources, ensuring it isfit for purposeand aligned withdata governanceandsecurity protocols. Applyquality assuranceprocesses and raise any issues withdata qualityordata governancein a timely manner. Comply withdata protection legislation,statistical disclosure control, andaccessibility standards. Technical Tools and Software Use relevant software (R, Python, SQL, Google Cloud Platform) to develop efficient, well-documented analytical workflows.



Contribute to the development and maintenance of reproducible analytical pipelines. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Present complex data clearly throughwritten reports,presentations, andinteractive dashboards. Adapt communication style to suit technical and non-technical audiences, usingpolitically neutral language. Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.



Able to comply with accessibility and good practice standards for data visualisation, presentations and writing about statistics, adapting language to the audience, and use clear English / Welsh, that is politically neutral. Understand and can use the appropriate media to communicate findings. Service Improvement and Innovation Contribute to the development of analytical protocols, data standards, and reporting templates. Support innovation in data use and promote best practice in analysis and reporting.



Participate in research and development activities, including the creation of new indicators or models. Expected to work independently within defined procedures and escalate complex issues to senior analysts as appropriate.
