Job Description

Sir John Nelthorpe School is seeking a dedicated and proactive Pupil Services Officer to join our pastoral team from September 2025.


This important role will be central to promoting strong pupil attendance and supporting positive engagement in learning, with a particular focus on monitoring and improving attendance across the school.


The Role:



The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day pupil attendance, liaising with families, and implementing intervention strategies to support pupils in attending school regularly.


In addition, you will support the Inclusion provision, ensuring pupils who are not in mainstream lessons continue to access the curriculum and receive appropriate care and supervision.


Key Responsibilities:



Attendance (Primary Focus):

Monitor daily attendance and conduct first-day calls to parents/carers regarding pupil absences.


Implement the school's staged attendance response procedures in consultation with the line manager.


Identify and report attendance concerns and emerging trends, including persistent absence.


Carry out home visits as required to engage with families and support improved attendance.


Liaise with external agencies to support pupils facing attendance challenges.


Inclusion Support:



Supervise and support pupils in the Inclusion provision to ensure continued access to the curriculum.


Work closely with Learning Co-ordinators and teaching staff to support pupil progress.


Respond to incidents of truancy and provide appropriate support or intervention.


Engage with pupils in need of emotional or behavioural support, offering immediate care and assistance.


Represent the school at external meetings related to pupil welfare and behaviour, where appropriate.


What We're Looking For:



Experience working with children, young people, or families in an educational or welfare setting.


Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.


Strong administrative, organisational and ICT skills for data monitoring and reporting.


Confidence in carrying out home visits and working with external agencies.


A calm, supportive and resilient approach to behaviour and attendance challenges.
