We are seeking a qualified and experienced Somali Language Interpreter to provide accurate and professional interpreting services between Somali and English. The role involves supporting communication across public service and professional settings, ensuring clarity, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide face-to-face, telephone, and video interpreting services between Somali and English.
Accurately convey spoken messages while preserving meaning, tone, and intent.
Maintain strict confidentiality, impartiality, and professionalism in all assignments.
Manage interpreting sessions effectively to ensure smooth communication.
Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant terminology and subject matter.
Adhere to recognised interpreting codes of conduct and organisational policies.
Essential Requirements:
Fluency in Somali and English (spoken and comprehension).
Must hold a recognised interpreting qualification, such as:
CIOL Qualifications Level 1, 2, or 3, or
DPSI (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting), or equivalent.
Proven experience providing interpreting services in professional or public service environments.
Strong communication, listening, and memory skills.
Ability to remain neutral, professional, and calm in sensitive or complex situations.
High level of reliability, punctuality, and organisational skills.
Desirable Criteria:
Experience interpreting in sectors such as healthcare, legal, social services
