Job Description

Our Play Therapist will work with young children suffering from a range of psychological difficulties and complex life experiences, such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, types of abuse, grief, family breakdown, domestic violence, and trauma. You will work to help a child gain insight and understanding of their experiences, which will increase emotional resilience, and develop coping strategies while decreasing problematic behaviours and internalised conflicts. You will work closely with our team, families and relevant professionals.

??Duties:

Assess the emotional needs of children in consultation with other professionals in schools, hospitals, clinics, social service teams and courts.

Provide treatment to children individually and within groups. Therapy usually takes place once a week, one hour sessions.

Key Responsibilities



Provide specialist direct and indirect therapeutic assessment and intervention for our young children. Complete therapeutic reports, clinical formulations and therapeutic care plans for the children we care for. Work as part of a MDT and within a Team around the Child framework. Support residential support workers to build and connect with their key children from an attachment perspective and using principles underpinned by PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy.) Have knowledge of safeguarding and risk in relation to working with children and young people. Provide consultation to residential care staff underpinned by a brain-based, trauma informed approach. Hold a clinical case load in providing specialist trauma informed therapy for our children. Work therapeutically with children using a range of approaches dependent on what matches their needs and capacity to tolerate the work. Be able to make autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice. Provide training for residential care staff and other professionals within the organisation.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise



To have at least 2 years relevant experience post qualification.

Be registered with HCPC or equivalent governing body. Have excellent written and verbal communication, particularly making complex information meaningful. Be motivated and have a genuine passion and care for children who have experienced trauma.
