Operative 1: Sunday - Thursday 07:00 - 17:00
5 days, full time, 45 contracted hours (1 hour unpaid break each day)

Operative 2: Tuesday - Friday 09:00 - 19:00 Saturday 07:00 - 17:00

Houghton Hams is a well-established, family-run, food production business which started in 1989, based in Moulton Park. Since the year 2000, Houghton Hams has rapidly grown and expanded. With customers and clients ranging from high end retailers to individual customers and food establishments, Houghton Hams went from having one building to now having four. We supply to our customers nationally on a next day service. Products include, but not limited to, bacon, gammon joints and hams.

About the Role



This role is open to candidates with experience of controlling quality in a busy factory environment. Applicants must have good attention to detail and an understanding of maintaining quality standards in a busy factory environment. A key requirement for this role is reliability, both in attendance and punctuality. Applicants should also have an appreciation of the meat processing environment, flexibility, and a willingness to learn. Tenacity, good communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills are required to succeed.

Desirable Responsibilities & Experience



Experience of working within a high-risk chilled food handling environment.

Specific QC or Quality Monitoring experience

Ability to influence a manufacturing environment, to affect positive changes.

Knowledge of and experience with BRCGS audits

Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)/Good Hygiene Practice (GHP) and control of food contamination.

Job Responsibilities



Daily:



? Providing continuous online quality review of product to ensure no substandard packs are despatched on designated line.

? Label checking - this may require both checking of the label and changing label reels as required.

? General quality checks and paperwork completion.

? Weight checks from the line and paperwork completion.

? Residual Oxygen checks and paperwork completion.

? Conducting Metal Detector checks and paperwork completion

? Responsible for all due diligence paperwork in area of focus during working hours.

? Completion at all times, checking and ensuring there are no gaps from all the areas assigned. Periodic review of designated areas on an ongoing basis.

? Ensuring 100% cover of all at risk production runs (as defined by managers or the technical department).

? Covering /supporting breaks by reviewing product on other lines as required.

? Conducting manual temperature checks of environment as required.

? GMP - Raise and close out issues in real time where feasible or pass to the appropriate person for close out at a later stage.

? Verifying cooking temperatures/checking cooling processes are followed as assigned/ requested.

Weekly: (As assigned)



? Gas analyser calibration and documentation

? Probe calibration and documentation

? Chemical titration to ensure adequate concentrations of chemicals as relevant

? GMP audit and documentation as required.

? Collection of micro and organoleptic samples as scheduled

? Swabbing as scheduled

? Organic rinse verification testing

? Speciation ATP Swabs / Protein swabs

? Maintenance of clean data loggers including replacement of bags as relevant.

Monthly: (As assigned)



? Completion of monthly micro/chemical sampling schedule.

? Tbar/data logger calibration

? Glass and plastics audit.

? Metal detection records for plasters and other metal detectable consumables

? Complete audit on first aid box.

Skills / Experience



Experience working in a food environment is essential (chilled environment preferred) Quality experience desirable Good attention to detail required. Willing and able to work in a

cold

Accountabilities



The Quality Control Operative reports into the Quality Manager and is accountable to the Technical Manager, High-Risk Managers and Operations Manager.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 12.75-13.75 per hour

Expected hours: 45 per week
