Quality Controller

Galashiels, SCT, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Permanent

Hours - 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

This role offers a competitive salary, a pension plan, employee discounts, plus 28 days paid annual leave and a 35-hour working week with a 'half day' Friday.

About the role

We're looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, and hardworking individual with a keen eye to join our production team as Quality Controller.

As Quality Controller, you will be responsible for inspecting garments at various stages of production, from initial material checks through to the final product. This includes identifying defects in matching, stitching, material consistency/quality, and labelling, as well as measuring garments against approved size specifications. You will report any non-conformities to the supervisor, support corrective actions, and maintain accurate inspection records, including weekly quality reports. The role also involves ensuring compliance with company standards and customer requirements, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the production process.

Because we are a small dynamic team periodically you may be expected to assist in other roles (particularly finishing) in the factory depending on business needs.

Experience in clothing manufacturing is essential and experience in quality control generally is desirable but applicants who meet other essential criteria with transferrable skills from other relevant roles will be considered.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of garment construction and sewing techniques, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. You should be able to work effectively, unsupervised in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills, particularly the confidence and skill to advise people on errors in their work and suggest improvements constructively.

A problem-solving mindset is important, with the ability to identify root causes and suggest practical solutions.

We have a strong brand reputation for quality workmanship and work with expensive materials, so we need someone who takes care and pride in their work and has a particularly high attention to detail.

Previous quality control or assurance experience in garments is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided, but you must have fundamental knowledge of garment construction and techniques

About us

Aero Leathers are a vintage clothing company specialising in manufacturing leather jackets. We're seen by many in our niche industry as the manufacturers of the finest and toughest leather jackets in the world, famed for kick-starting the industry shift to Horsehide in the 1980s and pioneering the reproduction leather jacket industry in the 40 years since.

Today, we continue to expertly craft the very best leather jacket styles from the early-mid 20th century from some of the finest materials in the world and from start to finish, each Aero jacket is entirely by hand in our factory with no shortcuts - an approach to workmanship that's unfortunately increasingly rare these days.

Although our jackets are what we're most famous for, over the years we've also designed and curated a large range of clothing and accessories to compliment the jackets we make and have become the go-to vintage clothing brand for aficionados and casual buyers alike.

We're a family-run business, and we have a team of around 25 working at our Galashiels factory. We sell both retail and wholesale both domestically and around the world, with our largest international markets in U.S. Japan and Germany.

We've invested a lot in our growth over the last few years, including successfully launching a new website and order management system. This year, we're looking to build on our recent growth and we're looking for hardworking and energetic individuals to join our team and grow with us!
