The Hereford operation is the major UK production facility in PCC Metals & Forgings Group and we now have an exciting/ challenging opportunity for a

Quality Engineer

to join the Special Metals Wiggin (SMW) team.

Role Purpose:



While upholding the highest standards of compliance, the Quality Engineer is a vital leader within a team, responsible for compliance and improving the Business Management Systems. The individual will take the lead on reducing production defects and promoting a culture of no fault forward and Right First-Time, by utilising the Business' toolbox including Six Sigma and Lean as well as other industry standard techniques.

Role Overview:



The Quality Engineer provides technical and operational support across the business, ensuring products meet manufacturing requirements from new product introduction through post-delivery. They apply industry-standard problem-solving tools, data analysis, and audit findings to lead process and product improvements. Strong influencing and project management skills are essential. As arbiters of product conformity, Quality Team members must uphold the highest standards of integrity.

Essential Functions:



The Quality Engineer role can encompass any of the following:

Non-conformance Management:

owning or leading all aspects of the process. Including, but not limited to monitoring, measurement and reporting of non-conformance performance; disposition; concession preparation and submission; designing rework methods; initiation of investigation.

Problems Solving:

leading problem-solving activities, independently or as a team, using the full range of industry proven techniques, to a successful resolution.

Auditing:

auditing of internal processes and suppliers. Hosting external audits. Customer Support: resolution of queries, data generation, account reviews and visits.

Compliance:

Ensuring compliance across key systems and processes. Responsibilities include approving release documentation, contract review, customer requests, third party inspection, production suspensions, risk releases, change management activities and release checks to ensure product and system conformity.

Standards and Specifications:

conduct and or lead Standards and Specification reviews.

Quality Rules:

conduct investigations into compliance, in line with business' QMS and 'Quality Rules,' individually or as part of a team, in the promotion of Zero Defect and Right-First-Time.

Complaints and Escapes:

Provides technical support in the management of customer complaints and product escapes, facilitating root cause analysis, corrective action implementation and quality system compliance in accordance with AS9100 standards. Any other duties that may be reasonably required by the business.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI's):



Reduction in customer escapes and concessions. Monitoring Audits, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Process Compliance Control. Improving productivity. Support in delivering KPI's.

Education/ Qualifications (one or more of the following is essential):



Degree or equivalent in Manufacturing, Engineering, Materials or similar field would be advantageous. Lead Auditor Qualified (ISO9001, AS9100) would be beneficial. Knowledge of NADCAP accreditation for special processes (e.g., NDT, Heat Treatment) would be beneficial. Six Sigma/Lean Qualifications (e.g., Black Belt, Green Belt etc) would be beneficial. Membership of an industry related Professional Body would be advantageous.

Experience/Skills/ Competencies:



4+ years' experience within a Quality discipline. Knowledge of mechanical, industrial, materials science engineering along with casting and forging technology understanding is advantageous. Hold excellent verbal and written communication skills to all levels of the business. Strong Problem-solving and analytical skills with significant relevant and recent experience in tools such as 5Y, RCCA, APQP, MSA, PFMEA and PPAP. Familiarity with platforms like SAP, Innovator, ETQ, or other ERP/QMS systems. Strong computer skills. Lots of initiative. Confident decision-making ability. The ability to work within deadlines. Ability to interface with all levels of the business.
