PSJ fabrications, a Wood subsidiary company, are recruiting for a Quality Inspector to join our Sheet Metal Fabrication team based in Bedford.
This position is a full-time role based at the workshop in Bedford Monday - Friday.
The Role
The Quality Inspector will oversee the quality and safety of all welding activities on site. As an experienced inspector they will be responsible for ensuring all inspections are completed before, during and after any welding operations.
This position will require someone with a keen eye for detail, with proven capabilities to read and understand drawings. The Quality Inspector will present the highest standard of accuracy in all reporting and ensure the team are meeting client specifications.
An individual who is delivery focused with prior inspection experience within a metal fabrications company, that thrives in a fast-paced environment would excel in this role. PSJ Fabrications are a subsidiary of Wood specialising in the fabrication of sheet metals from simple brackets to bespoke enclosures and larger fabrication projects.
Our 23,000 sq. feet facility in Bedford is host to "cutting edge" machinery with capabilities including; Fibre Optic Laser cutting, Brake press forming and Micro bore Welding.
Accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 3834 and EN1090-1 we have the ability to perform bespoke manufacturing as well as high volume manufacturing.
We support clients across a range of different industries from commercial to highly regulated such as Nuclear and defence.

The key objectives for this role are:
Inspection of manual/machine produced welds, including making recommendations for accepting or rejecting work
Ensuring the correct equipment is being used, checking correct weld specifications, weld maps and drawings are being adhered to
Ensuring all safety regulations are being adhered to
Observing all relevant actions related to weld quality throughout the production
Recording or logging of production inspection points relevant to weld quality, including when appropriate a final map and report sheet showing all identified welding imperfections
Conducting NDT inspection when applicable
Assuring the acceptable levels of materials have been received, issue reports of material receiving [e.g., checking against 3.1 Certification]
Assisting Quality/Inspection Engineer in investigations
Conducting visual inspection including dimensional aspects
Customer focussed inspection and final sign off for outgoing products
Documentation of inspection results by completing reports, including 'First Offs' and recording of data
Supporting Quality Engineer to resolve Production and Supplier related Quality issues
Ensuring safe working environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
Identifying Quality problems and supporting continuous improvement, offering suggestions where appropriate

Expected:
Visual testing PCN level 2
A clear understanding of Weld Maps and drawings and drawing interpretation
Strong attention to detail
Proven ability to communicate decisions & problems
Able to work under limited supervision, be proactive and capable of managing your time effectively
Please note applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check
Desirable:
A recognisable welding certification - CSWIP, AWS, HNC, HND, or NVQ certification
A recognisable Non-Destructive Testing Qualification in accordance with BS EN ISO9712 to include Penetrant Testing and/or Visual testing PCN level
