The Quality Manager will be a key member of the management team, driving a strong food safety culture, supporting operations, and protecting our brand, customers, and consumers.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Food Safety Systems
Own and maintain the Quality Management System in line with
SALSA, BRCGS, and Organic certification standards
Lead all external audits and inspections, including certification and customer audits
Ensure site compliance with food safety legislation, organic regulations, and customer codes of practice
Manage HACCP, TACCP, VACCP, food safety plans, specifications, and risk assessments
Audit & Compliance
Prepare the business for audits and act as the main point of contact for auditors and enforcement bodies
Manage non-conformances, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions
Conduct internal audits and hygiene/quality inspections across the site
Ensure full traceability, mass balance, and recall/withdrawal systems are robust and tested
Organic Certification
Maintain organic certification and ensure segregation, traceability, supplier approval, and labelling compliance
Approve organic suppliers and raw materials
Support product development to ensure organic compliance from concept to launch
Supplier & Raw Material Approval
Approve and monitor suppliers, including risk assessments, audits, and documentation
Manage specifications, allergen controls, and vulnerability assessments
Handle supplier non-conformance and improvement plans
Quality Culture & Training
Develop and deliver food safety and quality training across the business
Promote a positive quality culture at all levels
Coach and support production and management teams on standards and best practice
Customer & Business Support
Lead customer complaint investigations and continuous improvement actions
Support new product development, shelf-life work, and process improvements
Report on quality performance, risks, and improvement plans to senior management
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
Proven experience as a
Quality Manager / Technical Manager
within food manufacturing or whole foods production
Hands-on experience running
SALSA and/or BRCGS systems
Strong working knowledge of
organic certification standards
HACCP Level 3 or higher
Confident audit lead with successful certification history
Strong knowledge of UK food law, allergens, and food safety systems
Excellent organisational, communication, and influencing skills
Desirable
Experience in
organic, free-from, or whole foods sectors
Internal auditor qualification
Experience working in SME or growing food businesses
Experience supporting NPD and scaling production
Personal Attributes

Confident working cross-functionally with operations and leadership
Detail-driven but commercially aware
Comfortable building systems as well as improving existing ones
Passionate about food safety, quality, and ethical/organic food production
