We are seeking an experienced Quality Manager to join our manufacturing business and develop, implement and maintain a Quality Framework, as well as support with H&S activities. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual, who champions a culture of quality, improvement and adherence to H&S guidance. This is a hands-on role, combining oversight and deployment of quality processes with day-to-day operational interactions, such as inspections, analyses and reporting. This role is an opportunity to implement your own ideas to identify and make changes and improvements
We manufacture in-house on a single-site using wood, plastic, metal and print, as well as using papier-mache, fibreglass and an eco material for mannequin production. Our design and engineering team are also in-house, as are our purchasing team, who buy a mix of raw materials and finished goods
Responsibilities
Quality
- Take ownership of the inspection and quality assurance function within the business with a view to right-first-time quality being at the forefront of the everyone's actions
- Verify components against engineering drawings and customer specifications, while also checking for overall quality and finish. These may be in-house items or externally sourced.
- Implement and undertake a programme for goods-in inspections. Develop KPIs for externally supplied parts.
- Work collaboratively with team members across all departments to improve operational quality and reduce business risk
- Lead problem solving initiatives using root cause analysis to reduce manufacturing losses, defects and waste and improve customer satisfaction.
- Ensure that a feedback loop is active and promotes an open dialogue between engineering, manufacturing and assembly teams. Hold any cross-functional sessions to make necessary changes
- Prepare and present regular reports on QHSE performance metrics to the senior team, using data and narrative to identify areas for improvement.
- Make recommendations for changes to process, equipment or machinery to senior and departmental stakeholders
- Carry our internal and supplier audits and prepare reports and documentation (such as score cards) to ensure that quality standards are upheld and improved
- Accurately record, report and communicate results, with suggestions for remedial action plans and improvements
- Maintain calibration records in collaboration with machine operators and Maintenance Supervisor
- Support risk management activities and planning.
H&S
- Chair the in-house H&S Committee, encouraging company-wide engagement with safe working practices and active participation of the committee members
- Conduct risk assessments, internal inspections and investigations of accidents and near-misses, in collaboration with the off-site HR Manager. Ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure the company's adherence to all relevant regulatory health and safety requirements, with the support of the HR Manager and Maintenance Supervisor.

- Hands-on experience in a manufacturing and engineering environment
- Excellent communication skills, leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels to drive cultural change
- Able to work independently and collaboratively
- Keen to identify areas for improvement and bring forward ideas for change
- Great attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Knowledge of good practice for H&S procedures and compliance
