Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to oversee the successful delivery and installation of our products and services across the UK. This role will be responsible for managing contracts from the pre-contract phase through to final account and handover. In addition to operational and commercial oversight, the Quantity Surveyor will be accountable for managing the PQQ process, tender pricing and submissions, and ensuring accurate budget and margin management throughout each project.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Contract & Tendering
Lead the preparation and submission of PQQs (Pre-Qualification Questionnaires), ensuring timely and compliant responses.
Review tender opportunities to assess suitability and commercial viability.
Manage the end-to-end tender process, including pricing, coordination of technical and commercial content, and submission of tender documents.
Work closely with estimating and commercial teams to develop accurate and competitive tenders aligned with project scope and business objectives.
Establish clear project budgets and profit margins at tender stage for ongoing performance monitoring.
Maintain relevant industry accreditations and certifications, and review/revise them as necessary to meet evolving business, market, and sector objectives.
Contract & Project Management
Oversee all stages of project delivery from contract award to final account and handover.
Interpret technical specifications, drawings, and client requirements to plan and manage installations.
Coordinate with internal departments (estimating, production, logistics) and external stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery.
Monitor progress against programme timelines and proactively address issues or delays.
Commercial & Financial Management
Manage budgets and margins throughout the project lifecycle, tracking performance against forecasts.
Prepare and review commercial pricing for tenders, variations, and change orders.
Oversee monthly valuations, interim applications, and final accounts in coordination with the commercial team.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of client applications and associated commercial documentation.
Monitor and control project costs, produce cash flow forecasts, and identify/manage commercial risks.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date project cost records for auditing and reporting.
Support cost-saving and value engineering initiatives without compromising quality or compliance.
Compile and issue comprehensive Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals in line with project handover requirements.
Contractual Compliance & Claims
Manage contract correspondence and communication with clients, subcontractors, and consultants.
Ensure strict adherence to contract terms (e.g. JCT, NEC) and internal commercial procedures.
Support the preparation and resolution of claims, variations, and dispute management.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations, and company procedures.
Conduct or oversee site-specific risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
Promote a "safety-first" culture among site teams and subcontractors.
Team & Contractor Leadership
Supervise site operatives, subcontractors, and support staff.
Ensure all subcontractors are inducted, compliant, and aligned with quality and safety expectations.
Support workforce planning, recruitment, and performance management initiatives.
Client Relationship & Reporting
Act as the main point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
Attend site meetings and issue regular progress updates and reports.
Maintain strong, professional client relationships and ensure a high standard of service delivery.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential:
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Contracts Manager or Senior Site Manager in the construction or specialist installation sector.
Strong working knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC), CDM regulations, and Health & Safety.
Demonstrated commercial experience including pricing, cost control, applications for payment, and financial reporting.
Experience managing tender processes, PQQs, and commercial submissions.
Strong understanding of budgeting and margin control throughout project delivery.
Excellent organisational, planning, and communication skills.
Valid CSCS card and SMSTS (or equivalent).
Desirable:
Experience with GRP, composites, or specialist structural materials.
NEBOSH or IOSH qualification.
Familiarity with construction software systems (e.g., project management, H&S tracking).
