Job Description


RMS are recruiting for an excellent opportunity for Quantity Surveyors of all levels, for a growing construction consultancy within the renewable energy sector based in Darlington.

Role/Responsibilities

  • Estimate and control costs for renewable energy projects: This includes gathering and analysing data on materials, labour, and other costs; developing cost estimates; and monitoring costs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare tender documents and manage the tendering process: This includes preparing tender documents that accurately reflect the project scope and requirements; managing the tendering process; and evaluating and selecting tenders.
  • Administer contracts and monitor progress: This includes ensuring that contracts are properly executed; monitoring progress against contracts; and managing changes to contracts.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants: This includes communicating with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure that their needs are met; resolving issues; and providing updates.
  • Produce reports and presentations: This includes producing reports on project costs, progress, and other information; and presenting information to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Providing advice on project risks and opportunities: This includes identifying and assessing risks; developing mitigation strategies; and managing risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations: This includes understanding and complying with applicable regulations; advising clients on regulatory requirements; and managing regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Providing training and support to others: This includes training and supporting project team members; providing guidance on cost estimating and costing; and providing support to clients.
Qualifications/Experience
  • Experience in Forms of Contract (NEC and/or FIDIC) within a major projects and programme environment covering Industrial, Energy or Civil Engineering Projects
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry standard procurement practices.
  • Production of high-quality Tender Documentation, including collation of Works Information and other contract documents.
  • Understanding of contract performance measurement, risk management and change and claim management.
  • Confidence and ability to command respect at all levels through confident communication, negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Naturally inquisitive with ability openly ask questions to develop technical knowledge.
  • Effective commercial / contract management in both pre- and post-contract skills are essential, with clear knowledge of best practice contract methodologies.
  • Experience working within a regulated sector would be beneficial.
  • Membership of (or working toward) the RICS / CIPS / CICES / IOB or equivalent professional body.
