Wood is seeking an established Quantity Surveyor to support our growing workload within the Commercial area of our Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd entity. As a leading provider of engineering and construction services to the UK transmission and distribution sector, we are at the forefront of net zero 2050 with a secured workstream for years to come. We are equally interested in hearing from Assistant Quantity Surveyors looking for their next step to Quantity Surveyor level too.
This role provides flexibility as a hybrid role, working between home and our site offices based near Alness in the Inverness area, with occasional visits to our Glasgow office for client or internal management meetings. Alternatively, we can consider a remote based working from home option with the flexibility to travel regularly to the Alness site. Regardless of work arrangements, presence is required onsite several days per week to suit demand. This role is perfect for a commercially minded existing or aspiring Quantity Surveyor from a civils/ infrastructure or construction background who is comfortable working as the Principal Contractor, although not essential, with a wide range of projects under their belt who is looking for a new high-profile multi-million-pound contract challenge. The successful candidate will be experienced in cost & change control, contract & subcontract administration, and project reporting. You will be assigned to oversee and manage our geotechnical subcontractor who has been tasked to deliver a challenging ground investigation. Successful delivery will involve managing the Client and Subcontractor simultaneously. There will be opportunity for future progression and to work on further Scotland based transmission and distribution projects thereafter. Sound commercial judgement, flexibility, the ability to collaborate with others via MS Teams and travel to sites across Scotland is key.

The Role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will provide commercial support concerning financial and contractual matters arising through the management of our client project. This role involves post award contract administration, provision of commercial/ contract deliverables, implementation of project plans; undertaking costs analysis, preparation of cashflow forecasts, developing subcontracting commercial strategy as required; contributing to internal project reviews and developing project forecasts. You will enjoy the challenges of the project just starting construction, monitoring execution to tight deadlines, identifying Wood entitlement and managing performance within budgets.

Typical responsibilities
Post award contract administration including ensuring payment applications and invoices are prepared, reviewed or certified in a timely and accurate manner to include full contract entitlement ensuring scope of delivery is understood by the contract management team and change is captured in contract variations/ amendments, commercial administration files are established and maintained, and correspondence is properly documented
Timely provision of commercial/ contract deliverables such as bonds, PCGs, evidence of insurance and reporting
Development, implementation, and maintenance of project commercial plans including commercial strategy, subcontracting commercial strategy, and profit improvement plans
Regular cost analysis to: i) maximize recoverable costs, ii) minimize disallowable costs, iii) identify areas for cost saving, and iv) ensure adequate cost accruals and provisions are in place
Ensure that all commercial related DOA matters are correctly approved and documented
Preparation of project cashflow forecasts, expenditure, invoice preparation, and expediting of payments in accordance with client contract requirements for Wood processes and procedures
Developing Subcontracting commercial strategy in conjunction with Project management, Supply Chain and other functions as required
Preparation and analysis of inputs to key contract and internal project reporting requirements and participation in internal project reviews
Developing robust project forecasts in conjunction with the project team

Expected:
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, or Business Studies along with appropriate professional qualification (preferred)
Substantial demonstrated experience within a QS role preferably gained from a transmission and distribution overhead lines background although not essential
Working knowledge of NEC contracts
Awareness of all relevant corporate and project procedures
Proven experience in contract administration including change management
