Carrier Landscapes is a leading commercial landscaping company with over 35 years of experience, proudly located in the heart of rural Leicestershire. Renowned for exceptional quality and service, we are the trusted landscaping partner for many of the UK's top housing developers and commercial organisations. We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team, working closely with operations, site managers, commercial, and finance teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standard. This is a new role for the business, so we're looking for someone who can not only bring their expertise but also help shape how the role works day-to-day.
Role Overview
The Quantity Surveyor will support the business by providing cost control, budgeting, and commercial insight across our projects. You'll work closely with operations, site managers, commercial, and finance teams to help ensure projects are profitable, risks are managed, and clients remain at the heart of what we do. As this is a new position, we're open to adapting responsibilities around the strengths and experience of the right person.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts for landscaping projects.
Assess worksheets prior to project completion, highlighting potential losses and taking proactive action to reduce them.
Monitor and analyse site profitability, reporting on performance and liaising with the commercial team where sites fall short.
Propose practical, workable solutions to increase margins on low-profit sites.
Undertake cost monitoring and reporting throughout project lifecycles.
Manage contracts, subcontracts, and supplier agreements.
Carry out site visits to verify progress, measure completed works, and ensure quality assurance.
Prepare interim and final accounts, valuations, and project financial reports.
Support procurement and tender processes, including preparing bills of quantities.
Identify and mitigate risks to protect profitability and client satisfaction.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as the main contact for financial and contractual matters.
Be hands-on and collaborative, supporting the wider team where needed to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry (landscaping experience advantageous).
Strong knowledge of cost control, budgeting, risk management, and commercial reporting.
Experience in analysing project profitability and developing strategies to improve margins.
Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail, able to gather, interpret, and present data to facilitate preparation of budgets and subsequent valuations.
Able to work on own initiative, with the drive to take ownership of projects.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a client-focused approach.
Ability to work collaboratively with operations, site managers, commercial, and finance teams.
Strong organisational skills, with high attention to detail.
Proficiency in MS Excel and other relevant estimating/project management tools.
Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field (desirable).
