Capital is a well-established and versatile Principal Contractor specialising in the dynamic fields of commercial and retail construction.
We currently have openings for Quantity Surveyors to enhance our dedicated team. We are in search of a highly skilled and seasoned Quantity Surveyor with at least 5 years of experience to become a valuable addition to our workforce. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and proficiency, particularly in the realms of cut and carve and new build commercial projects in the UK.
Proficiency in using estimating software and Microsoft Excel is essential. Furthermore, a background in construction is crucial to ensure precise project evaluations and to contribute valuable insights during the estimation and pre-construction phases.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in the UK
- Background in construction and refurbishment works as a Main/Principal Contractor
- Preferably, a degree holder; however, relevant experience will also be considered
- Experience in pricing projects ranging from 50k to 6 million
- Proficiency in using measurement software and ability to carry out measures and take offs
- Familiarity with conducting sub-contractor analysis and comparison, ensuring accurate pricing
- Knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly JCT suite of contracts
- Experience in coordinating and submitting final tender submissions
- Strong presentation skills
What you'll do:
Primary Responsibilities (including and not limited to)
Reporting to Associate Director and Directors, you will work as a key element of the team focused on the delivery of Quantity Surveying duties on live projects around the UK. Working in a small team this job offers a varied role which may include site based and office-based duties.
Pre-Contract Tendering & Procurement/Pre Site
Development of tender packages and pricing documents via a bill of quantities, pricing schedule or other evaluation method.
Tendering of projects and liaising with the team - carrying out thorough analysis of quotations
Possible site/scoping visits
Developing cost plan with Commercial Team
Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations upon the proposed works and ensuring this is captured at cost stage/pre construction
Procurement
PQQs and Sub-Contractor database development.
Live Projects
Client/Contractor liaison
Possible site progress visits & meeting attendance
Monitoring profit & loss
Review and implication of client/own drawing changes
Review of contractor variations as a result of the above or superfluous claims
Cost forecasting
Procurement + order issue
Sub-Contactor valuation and invoice review against contracted costs
Capital valuation and invoice preparation
Post Contract/Completion
Client & Contractor Liaison
Possible final site measures
Preparation and reconciliation of sub-contractor final accounts
Issue of sub contract final account statements
Preparation and reconciliation of Capital Shopfitters final account
Final account preparations
Logging contractor score card info, h & s performance, environmental project performance for benchmarking and KPIs
Personal Attributes
High degree of personal motivation and ability to work on own initiative and with the minimum of supervision
Ability to work as part of a close knit management team and work on numerous activities / projects simultaneously - both short and long term
Exceptional client facing skills are a prerequisite for dealing with the client, consultants, design team and contractors

What you'll need:
Quantity Surveying degree (2:1 or higher) / 5+ Years Experience in the role
Thorough and extensive knowledge of all disciplines involved in the construction process
CSCS
A full UK Driving Licence is essential, please do not apply if you do not possess this, and applicants must be eligible to work in the UK in order to apply and be considered for this role.
Computer literate -
Knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook are essential, AutoCad/Design Review experience desirable, PlanSwift experience desirable.
