Quantity Surveyor - Asset Intelligence

Location - London

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for a quantity surveyor to join the team Asset Intelligence at Galliford Try.

Ideally, you will based in or around the London area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.

You will report directly into the Managing Quantity Surveyor, whilst working closely with the operational leads within the business. We are looking for somebody who is highly proactive, dynamic and can drive the commercial and financial performance of the business unit forward whilst ensuring that robust risk management principles are instilled.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To own and manage all commercial aspects of the projects.
  • Act as the lead in the administration of the contract.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.
  • Provide training and mentorship to the junior member so the commercial team and encourage continuous professional development
  • Management of subcontract works packages, including interim assessment and change management.
  • Produce and issue all commercial notices, to the Client and Subcontractors, as required by the chosen form of contract.
  • Manage change in a timely manner in accordance with the form of contract
  • Produce, submit and agree monthly applications for payment to the client.
  • Produce detailed monthly reports and Cost Value Reconciliation\'s (CVR) as required by the business unit and project.
  • Produce and maintain a detailed cost plan and spend profile, tracking and forecasting expenditure.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager and operational teams to ensure all commercial elements are identified, quantified and notified in a timely manner.
  • Work with the Project Manager to identify risks, and plan to avoid, mitigate or reduce the risks.
  • Attend all weekly progress and risk reduction meetings and provide commercial guidance to the wider team.
  • To establish targets, ensure the preparation of comprehensive and reliable cash forecasts, monitor results and interpret reason for deviation, advise and guide team on established techniques to maximise cashflow
  • Drive operational and commercial performance to achieve or exceed all monthly budgets in terms of P&L, cash, WIP and debt.
  • Ensure sound subcontract tendering process is implemented across portfolio of projects, including negotiation of subcontract terms, subcontract documents, pricing schedules, scope of works
  • Guide the development of project opportunities and minimise risk by foreseeing trends and based on extensive experience and knowledge
  • Devise innovative systems to control and monitor direct work costs and financial performance
  • Lead, guide and negotiate the approach format and timescales of complex variations
  • Ensure GT commercial management processes are implemented and adhered to across portfolio of projects and provide guidance on standard processes
  • Review of existing processes, analysing common errors and implement improvements and share learning with wider commercial function
  • To future proof the commercial management function by developing technical and leadership capability across the team
About You:

Experience:
  • Significant experience working as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Proven track record in managing quantity surveying activities for multiple projects.
  • Experience in managing teams of quantity surveyors, providing guidance and mentorship.
  • In-depth knowledge of the commercial aspects of construction projects, including cost management, contract administration, and risk assessment.
  • Familiarity with different construction sectors (e.g., building, infrastructure, housing) and project types.
  • Experience in collaborating with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor\'s degree in quantity surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification or membership with a recognized industry body (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB) is highly desirable.
  • Continued professional development through relevant training and certifications.
  • Knowledge of applicable local regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant construction contracts, such as NEC, JCT, or FIDIC.
