About the Role:

The role is required to lead research and development related to novel high power radio frequency systems. The primary focus of the team is to provide expertise to customers on the topic of High Power Radio Frequency (HPRF) and Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapons (RF DEW) and the impact these systems can have on commercial and military electronics. The team also delivers innovative research on this subject. The successful applicant will be a recognised subject matter expert in the field of RF effects and have a proven background of leading successful projects in this area.

What will I be doing?

  • Using subject matter expertise to lead and technically assure research projects.
  • Innovating to generate novel HPRF concepts and systems that may lead to new IP.
  • Supporting the technical development of junior team members
  • Championing QinetiQ thought leadership in RF DEW, including publication in professional journals and presenting at international conferences.
  • Providing RF safety leadership both internally and in delivery of RF safety projects for customers.
  • Maintaining and develop relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Providing technical leadership for RF DEW projects.
  • Collaborate across QinetiQ disciplines and business areas to maximise value added to customers.
  • Support the continual development of the QinetiQ RF DEW capability through engagement with Delivery Teams, Capability leaders, Business Development and innovation.
What do I need?
  • Degree or recognised equivalent in Physics or Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline. Higher level specialist qualifications such as a Masters or PhD is desirable
  • Deep Expertise in the domain of RF or microwave Physics/engineering and current knowledge of UK MOD (and other nations organisations) priorities in Radio RF DEW. Typically at least 9 years\' recent experience of working in this or a related field.
  • A record of successfully leading people and projects related to RF systems and effects
  • Experience of leading safely and successfully leading test programmes that use of radio frequency measurement systems.
  • Contribution to UK RF DEW programmes
  • Excellent analytical skills, as well as good evaluative judgement based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information in novel situations.
  • Uncompromising safety attitude and understanding of managing how the practical risks associated with HPRF and microwave testing.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to adapt information/style appropriate to the audience.
  • An understanding of concepts and procedures related to Quality Assurance, and Health and Safety. An ability to convey how they relate to the delivery of technical work.
