Job Summary

Hours: Shifts allocated between 7:30am to 8:00pm, Monday - Friday. Overtime available to work on weekends.

Location: Rotation between sites of 33 Grosvenor Place, London SW1X 7HY, 24 Portland Place, London W1B 1LU and 55 Moorgate, London, EC2R 6BH

Contract: Permanent

What are we looking for?

The Radiology Department Assistant works as part of a team and under the overall guidance of the Radiology Manager to ensure the highest standard of service to patients, consultants and visitors.

What will your duties include?

On a day to day basis support Radiographers and Radiologists in the course of their work, liaising with patients and secretarial staff to ensure smooth, efficient service to patients and customers

Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their relatives or carers throughout their journey

Greet patients in a welcoming friendly manner, book patient exams, confirm records of patient details are accurate and up to date, ensuring amendments are made on electronic systems where necessary in real time

Assist patients in preparation and during imaging procedures, helping them to change, preparing rooms, organising patient list

Inform patient, giving accurate exam instructions and seeking answers to any concerns.

Prepare next day work lists and set up procedure trolleys

Assist with ordering of stock, keeping adequate stock levels, and ensuring rooms are ready for use before every session

Be responsible for entering pre-determined clinical data and such additional, professional observations as may be appropriate onto computer based systems such as the Radiology Information System (RIS)

Be responsible for the correct care and use of equipment and resources, generally throughout the hospital, but with a particular emphasis on the specialist equipment used in Imaging Services.

Undertake relevant training and competency assessments, strictly adhering to agreed protocols and procedures

Participate in on-going audit activities

Adhere to appropriate Health & Safety guidelines and regulations

Undertake basic patient observations, recognise a deteriorating patient, and manage immediately and appropriately

Display excellent communication skills, act in a professional manner with sensitivity and discretion both in person and on the telephone often communicating with emotional patients or relatives using judgement and experience

Train new Caregivers on systems and monitor quality of training in conjunction with senior Caregivers

What we need from you?

General standard of education to GCSE (including English) (essential)

Qualified Assistant Practitioner (desirable)

NVQ level 3 or equivalent (desirable)

Diploma/Certificate in Healthcare Support Services (desirable)

Previous healthcare experience in Imaging Department (desirable)

RIS/PACS knowledge desirable (desirable)

Requires dexterity to produce materials on a computer and demonstrate competency in IT (essential)

Manage time and resources and prioritise workload according to clinical needs

Requires physical manipulation of objects, fine tools/materials and people; narrow margins for error; accuracy and high degree of precision
