Job Description

As a Ranger, you're a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you'll play a crucial role in keeping the nation's beloved countryside in good shape, for wildlife and for people. You'll play a key role within a passionate community, working with and advising on conservation at Limpsfield Common.


This is a 12 month fixed-term role.


You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

, however this is your chance to join a close-knit and small team in a truly idyllic location.


You'll support your fellow rangers in undertaking engagement and conservation work. You'll introduce a wide variety of people to the importance of your nature conservation work through events, guided walks and engaging the local community.


As the Ranger, you'll be managing 2 volunteer groups working across different areas of Limpsfield Common, National Trust sites. As you develop a flexible and effective programme of work for your team, you'll be guided both by business needs and by the Trust's strategy for restoring nature and enabling everyone to enjoy the countryside.



What you'll be doing:You'll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You'll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you'll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.


You'll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You'll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.


You'll be assisting your team with tree safety and woodland management across the properties which have very significant woodland holdings, with exciting plans to make them much more self sustainable in the future. You'll also be working on heathland restoration around the Common and leading a committed task force to achieve fantastic results.


You'll take responsibility for compliance, including the health and safety of your team, visitors, tree safety, and environmental management, as well as setting and leading standard relating to environmental practice.

practically experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work you're doing, and why it matters hard-working and willing to learn able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates a driver with a full UK driving licence
