Job description



This successful candidate will be based at Springboard Adventure in Hetton Lyons Country Park. This is a physically demanding role, operating in all weathers and seasons. Springboard manages and maintains the 180-acre park on behalf of Sunderland City Council to meet the city-wide Parks Management Plan. Maintenance of woodland plantations, hard and soft landscaping, machine maintenance and student and volunteer support are integral parts of the role. The role is based on Hetton Lyons Country Park, currently 3 days per week within Hetton Lyons Country Park and the Sunderland Coalfield and 2 days per week based in the Pallion Ward of the West of Sunderland. There will also be a peripatetic element to support the maintenance of some of Springboards other sites across the area.

Duties of the Post Holder



Springboard Sunderland Trust operates in a demanding and often changing environment. Members of staff must be flexible, adaptable and willing to face up to changing circumstances and new opportunities. The following list of duties and responsibilities must therefore be taken as a guide and is not to be considered comprehensive:

Maintenance, cleansing and development of the site through delivery of Sunderland City Councils Parks Management Plan. Run the Clean and Green Project in Pallion, Sunderland West. Update elected members and other stakeholders by email and in person regularly. Ensure all equipment and resources are well maintained and fit for purpose. Ensure that volunteers/learners always behave appropriately and professionally, especially when dealing with members of the public. Offer regular supervised and structured work experience for learners from Springboards Study Programme and Alternative Education courses. Maintain appropriate, effective records and administration including individual progress reporting and placement review in a timely manner. Carry out duties in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures as currently in force throughout Springboard. Ensure the operation of efficient and safe environments within the guidelines of Springboard's Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding policies with due regard for the health, safety and welfare of all. Supervise a team or cohort of volunteers and/or learners. Assist in marketing and promotion of other Springboard programmes. Assist in the development of Springboard's work, including new initiatives and developments as part of the ongoing commitment of the Trust to quality and progress. Undertake other duties which are commensurate with the post as may be required from time to time, by the Chief Executive or other Springboard Managers.

Essential Skills



Excellent up to date skills, knowledge and experience in environmental conservation and horticulture. Excellent interpersonal skills including communication and team building. Comfortable in the use of Office IT applications and social media. Driving Licence Level 2 in Horticulture or equivalent

Desirable Experience and Abilities



Tractor Experience/Qualifications Chainsaw Cross Cutting/Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing trees Experience within a training or related environment Chipper experience/qualification D1E Driver eligibility Interest in Outdoor Activities
