This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Rare-cancer team who shares our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and service to our patients.



You will gain a valuable insight into supporting patients at diagnosis and through the cancer pathway, including during & post treatment and when disease recurs or advances.



We are seeking an experienced Clinical nurse specialist with advanced communication skills to specialise in rare cancer. You should have a non-medical prescribing qualification and experience in prescribing, be caring and self-motivated to join this busy service.



Our Rare cancer team supports patients with Sarcomas and neuro-endocrine tumours, for more information it is recommended that any interested candidates discuss the job role in detail with the current Rare cancer CNS team.



The ideal candidate will have significant oncology experience and have previously worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) but we would also consider applicants who are Advanced Nurse Practitioner 's (ANP) in Oncology.



You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills in a specialist unit. You will provide holistic support, education and specialist advice to patient's, carers and health professionals. You will need to be able to work autonomously as well as being part of a team.



This is a great opportunity to develop your experience as a cancer CNS in a tertiary cancer centre.



Assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating care, as an autonomous practitioner with specialist skills.



You will work closely with the Clinical Oncologists and the wider MDT.



Act as a key worker for patients.



Provide specialist knowledge and support to patients by phone or in person while in clinic.



Have the ability to carry out holistic assessments at specific time points within their pathway.



CNS'S perform specialist holistic assessment and treatment using a personalised approach/ this is characterised by a level of decision making based on detailed knowledge and understanding of their area of practice.

Person specification



Education/qualifications



Essential



NMC registration and a degree in related subject. Post registration qualification (s) in speciality or Oncology. Non-medical prescribing qualification and experience. Significant experience as a CNS/ANP Recognised teaching qualification or experience.

Desirable



Recognised physical assessment module at level 7. Quality improvement training. Experience in prescribing SACT.

Experience



Essential



Relevant and substantial post registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist role. Experience of teaching and assessing others. Experience of audit and service development/ initiating change. Understanding of clinical governance. Understanding of evidence-based practice Understanding of patient pathways, its complexities and how to support the patient through this.

Desirable



Experience of leading and managing. Research experience.

Skills/knowledge/abilities



Essential



In depth knowledge of speciality and use of evidence-based practice. Able to demonstrate advanced communication skills and manage complex situations. Excellent organisational skills and advanced ICT skills including chemo-care, info-flex, Microsoft office. Good verbal and written communication skills Capable of working as an integral member of a small team Flexible and adaptable to changing situations according to work load and clinical need Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload Effective interpersonal skills
