Overview:
Penningtons Manches Cooper is looking for a paralegal to join it's team in London.
The Property Litigation team deliver a high-quality legal service and this role will involve supporting a busy team acting largely for one client. The full scope of work will include managing disrepair claims in line with the relevant pre-action protocol, dealing with court proceedings and enforcement action. The role will also involve a lot of client contact and corresponding with other firms of solicitors and third parties such as the courts, experts, counsel's clerks and counsel. Responsible for undertaking fee-earning work and providing a profitable contribution to the work of the department.
The firm operates a hybrid agile working policy allowing employees to work from home (or another UK location) for at least 50% of their time. Individuals can also apply for other flexible working options either at the time of recruitment or during the course of their employment.
Responsibilities:
Project manage a caseload under supervision from senior members of the team
Provide document support and management in the course of real estate litigation including organising, collating reviewing and supplying court bundles
Liaising with courts, counsel and other third parties
Attending client and other meetings and producing accurate notes of such meetings and activity lists
Ensure compliance with professional duties and the firm's internal procedures
Active participation in business development initiatives
To demonstrate required knowledge and keep up to date with developments in the law
To assist in the billing process
Participate in firm wide and team specific training sessions
Essential & Desirable Criteria:
No specific legal qualification is required but the candidate must be able to demonstrate some relevant experience or interest in the specific area of law
It is not essential but desirable that the candidate will have gained their LPC/SQE
Some interest in real estate and residential landlord and tenant law would assist
Good communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to develop strong relationships with clients and others in the sector
High level of accuracy and attention to detail is required
Ideally, some experience in managing projects
Strong IT skills, including excel and flowcharts
A professional approach to work to ensure deadlines are met
The ability to support the team's work and a desire to gain experience to be able to run their own files as part of a larger team
To be able to keep calm under pressure. To work well on a wide range of tasks simultaneously and be able to organise work accordingly
To be able to work well in a team and understand others' importance to that team. To support senior and other team members.
