About Us
Bancroft Medical Centre is a welcoming and supportive GP practice located in Hitchin. We operate across two sites on the same road and provide care for approximately 18,000 patients. Our reception team is well-established, friendly, and committed to providing excellent service to our patients.
We are currently looking to recruit temporary receptionists to support the practice. While the initial contract is for six months, there is potential for the role to become permanent.
Working Hours
Receptionists must be available to work either:
Morning shift: 07:45 - 13:30
Afternoon shift: 13:30 - 18:45
across Monday to Friday.
Please note: shift patterns can be discussed further at the interview stage.
Key Responsibilities
Receptionists are expected to work in accordance with established practice procedures and protocols. Core duties include:
Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion
Booking and managing appointments in person and over the phone
Signposting patients to relevant NHS and community services
Communicating test results and clinician advice to patients
Logging home visit requests and referring urgent cases to the duty doctor
Processing address changes and informing patients if they are out of area
Handling incoming and outgoing mail
Advising patients on charges for private services, processing payments, and issuing receipts
Maintaining a clean and organised reception area
Person Specification
While previous experience as a receptionist in a GP surgery or healthcare setting is an advantage, it is not essential. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following core skills:
