Job Description

Aspull Surgery is looking to recruit a hardworking and enthusiastic receptionist to join our busy, friendly team.

We presently serve a population of 6200 and pride ourselves on providing a high standard of care to our patients. Working in a busy but efficient environment you will be first point of contact for our patients and support the day to day running of the surgery alongside our GP's and Nurses and administrative team.

Experience of working in a GP practice is preferred but training will be provided for the right candidate.

IT literate EMIS & Docman experience

20 hours per week

Flexibility to cover holidays/sickness if required

Salary dependent on experience

Surgery opening hours Monday - Friday 8.00am - 6.30pm

Main Duties



Dealing with patients in person and by phone on a daily basis. Maintaining and monitoring the appointment system. Dealing with prescriptions and managing queries and tasks generated by GPs and the nursing staff. Able to work on own initiative and part of a wider team. Ability to prioritise workload in a busy environment. Completing daily tasks as directed. Excellent telephone communication and customer service skills.
This is a multi-skilled role the candidate should be confident in making appointments, answering phones, assisting patients with their queries and routine administrative duties relevant to the position.

Job responsibilities:

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice. Maintain the computerised appointment system and monitor the flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms. Action requests for repeat prescriptions on the clinical computer system according to the prescribing protocol and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours. Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments. Using your own judgement and communication skills to ensure those patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non disruptive manner. Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed. Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery. Record all requests for home visits onto the clinical system, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to the doctor on duty. Enter patient information onto the computer as required. Ensure that all new patients and temporary residents are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately. Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the partners, practice manager or senior receptionist.

Reception experience Experience in a healthcare setting Experience in a GP reception role Previous experience of handling confidential records Familiarity with EMIS software Understanding of medical terminology
