The Role



We're looking for a proactive Recruitment & HR Advisor to support our growing business and help us continue building a workplace where ability, integrity, and respect thrive. This role combines full responsibility for end-to-end recruitment with generalist HR advisory support (70/30 split), ensuring the organisation has the talent, capability, and culture needed to meet its operational and strategic objectives.

You will manage the full recruitment life cycle--from attracting and sourcing high-quality candidates to supporting managers through selection--while driving efficiencies, reducing external recruitment spend, and enhancing our employer brand.

Alongside this, you will act as a first point of contact for managers on day-to-day HR matters, supporting the employee lifecycle, advising on employee relations, and ensuring accurate, compliant HR practices.

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition



Collaborate with recruiting managers to understand workforce needs, job requirements, and role profiles. Support the development and review of high-quality job descriptions across all departments. Assist the Head of HR in creating and delivering effective recruitment strategies that ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency. Source candidates through diverse channels (e.g. job boards, social media, networking, referrals) with a focus on reducing cost-per-hire and external agency usage. Manage the MJ Church Talent Bank and proactively build talent pipelines for high-demand roles. Screen CVs and assess candidates' suitability, ensuring a consistently high standard of shortlisting. Coordinate interviews and selection processes, ensuring a smooth, timely, and positive candidate experience. Maintain candidate communication, providing updates and feedback throughout the process. Prepare offers and support candidate negotiations. Ensure recruitment processes comply with legal requirements, internal policies, and best practice. Build strong relationships with colleges, universities, professional bodies, and recruitment partners. Track and report recruitment metrics such as time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and source effectiveness. Support employer brand initiatives and represent MJ Church at careers events where required. Assist with onboarding activities to ensure new starters are welcomed, properly inducted, and set up for success. Participate in audits, including acting as an auditor for external agencies.

HR Advisory Support & Employee Relations



Act as a first point of contact for managers seeking HR advice. Provide timely, pragmatic, and legally compliant guidance on employee relations matters including absence, disciplinaries, grievances, and performance management. Support managers through formal processes, ensuring consistency and adherence to policies and procedures. Maintain strong working relationships with line managers, building their confidence and capability in people management.

Who you are



You're an experienced HR professional with a passion and lean towards recruitment. who You're approachable, solutions-focused, and confident advising managers at all levels. You have a good understanding of HR processes and employment law, with the ability to build trust and credibility at all levels.

Key Skills and Qualifications

Proven experience in a combined recruitment and HR role, ideally in a similar environment. Good understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice. CIPD Level 3 (or working towards) desirable. Experience proactively sourcing candidates. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Confident managing ER cases. Organised and detail-focused, with strong problem-solving ability.
