What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities:
Assist with basic food preparation (e.g. peeling, chopping, plating)
Serve meals and refreshments to service users
Help set up and clear dining areas before and after meals
Wash up dishes and kitchen equipment
Keep kitchen and food areas clean, tidy, and hygienic
Follow food safety and hygiene guidelines at all times
Work as part of a friendly, supportive team
Provide a warm and welcoming experience for service users during mealtimes
How would you be supported in this role?

Full training is provided so you will be prepared for being a companion and know what to expect.
Minimum 2 volunteers working with the service users.
Regular contact with the Wanstead Activity Centre manager
Regular supervision with the Volunteer Services Team
You will also have support from our staff when you need it throughout your service.
Out of pocket expenses and Travel expenses will be covered in line with our Expenses policy
References available upon request (after 3 months)

You will need to complete an application form and attend an informal interview.
If you are successful, you will need to provide references, undergo a DBS check and attend an induction. There will be training provided.

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?
Interest in food preparation and kitchen work
Basic knowledge of hygiene and food safety (or willingness to learn)
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Good communication and friendly manner
Reliable and punctual
Comfortable standing for periods and performing physical tasks
Experience in catering, hospitality, or volunteering in similar roles (helpful but not essential)
Enjoy working in a busy, social environment
