Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and experience in Refrigeration and Air conditioning systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair. This role requires the ability to read and interpret schematics, as well as a commitment to delivering high-quality service to our clients. Leadership qualities are also valued.

The type of equipment that you will be working on varies, most of the time you will be working on small integral refrigeration systems, small to medium size split/package A/C units. We will provide specific training for the ice cream machines. These systems are mainly soft ice cream machines, display cabinets and slush machines; per contra, you will also need to be comfortable working on walk-in refrigerators and freezers. The work will be predominantly diagnosing and repairing equipment although you will be required to install and give training on new equipment as well as carry out preventative maintenance (PPM's) during quieter winter months.

You will be working with HFC's so an F-gas qualification is required. There is no requirement to have any specific electrical qualifications. However, a good level of electrical knowledge and competence is needed, as you will be expected to diagnose and solve electrical problems on three-phase equipment. You should have some knowledge of the operation of both single-phase and three-phase compressors. Since the majority of the work will be on integral systems, you will not be required to have any extensive experience with pipe work and basic ability in this area should suffice. Despite this, good brazing ability is a must for some jobs that include replacing refrigeration components.

For this reason, we expect you to be presentable, polite and courteous when at work, both when dealing with your colleagues and with customers.

We are offering a generous pay packet detailed below with 28 days annual leave.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, and repair air conditioning systems in commercial settings. Diagnose faults in equipment and perform necessary repairs or replacements. Read and interpret schematics to understand system layouts and troubleshoot issues effectively. Conduct regular maintenance checks to ensure optimal performance of air conditioning units. Communicate effectively with clients regarding service needs, recommendations, and any necessary repairs. Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used during service calls. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies while on-site. Provide leadership and training to junior technicians as needed.

Requirements

Proven experience in air conditioning installation, maintenance, and repair. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot various Refrigeration and HVAC systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong communication skills for effective client interaction.
