General

We are looking for an experienced and safety-conscious

Refrigeration Engineer

with

F-Gas certification

,

hands-on experience with ammonia-based systems

, and a

solid electrical background

. This role is key to ensuring the optimal operation, maintenance, and compliance of our refrigeration and cold storage infrastructure.

You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the performance of complex refrigeration systems while also supporting broader site electrical maintenance as part of a proactive engineering team.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Carry out reactive and preventative maintenance on ammonia and F-Gas refrigeration systems, including chillers, blast freezers, compressors, and evaporators. Conduct fault diagnosis and repairs on both refrigeration and electrical systems across the site. Monitor and maintain compliance with F-Gas regulations and ammonia system safety standards. Manage routine inspections, leak checks, and testing procedures. Maintain and troubleshoot control panels, electrical distribution systems, sensors, and automated equipment. Liaise with refrigeration contractors and support external audits and compliance inspections. Maintain detailed service logs, compliance records, and update PPM schedules. Participate in site improvement projects and support installation or upgrade of equipment. Out of hours and weekends to accommodate breakdowns when necessary. Collaborate closely with engineering colleagues and support less experienced team members.

Essential:

Recognised qualification in Refrigeration/Electrical/Engineering (e.g., NVQ Level 3, ONC/HNC or equivalent. Previous experience in a food manufacturing, FMCG, or related environment. Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding and repair skills. Familiarity with health & safety, HACCP, and GMP standards. Organised and proactive - able to manage multiple tasks, projects, and timelines effectively without close supervision. Strong communicator - confident, clear communicator (written and verbal).

Desirable:

PLC fault-finding and programming experience. 17th or 18th Edition electrical certification (for electrically-biased roles). Ammonia-specific safety training (can be provided if required)
