The Regional Payroll Operations Lead is responsible for proactively managing and delivering high-quality payroll services across their assigned region. The role leads the regional payroll team, drives strategic initiatives, ensures operational excellence, and acts as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. This position plays a crucial role in embedding service line strategy, enhancing team performance, and delivering consistent client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities





Lead and manage the regional payroll team to deliver accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services Utilise Payroll Managers and Payroll Quality & Compliance Managers to ensure effective task delegation and delivery Oversee team operations, capacity planning, and resource allocation in alignment with service line goals and regional demand Coach, mentor, and support Payroll Managers and Payroll Quality & Compliance Managers in fulfilling their roles and delivering on responsibilities Use technical payroll expertise to upskill team members and provide coaching on complex client issues Collaborate with the Payroll Quality & Compliance Managers to monitor team performance, review outputs, and implement continuous improvement initiatives Monitor regional revenue against budget, identify variances, and implement action plans to address shortfalls Act as the final escalation point for complex client issues within the region Lead the client onboarding process, ensuring accurate vetting, categorisation, and pricing in line with SPM parameters Maintain strong relationships with regional partners, directors, and key clients to support growth, satisfaction, and retention Embed and deliver the payroll service line strategy within the region, ensuring alignment with national and regional objectives Identify and lead regional and service line projects, from definition to delivery, including process improvement, systems implementation, and service innovation Ensure all processes within the region meet internal standards and external regulatory compliance Lead on the implementation of service line compliance frameworks and quality controls Own regionalised client consultancy work, bringing payroll technical expertise and guidance

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise





CIPP or equivalent payroll qualification Experience in a professional services or consultancy environment Change/project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile) Proven experience in leading and managing regional payroll teams in a multi-client environment Strong technical knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance, and best practices Demonstrated success in stakeholder management and resolving complex client issues Commercial acumen with experience managing budgets and revenue targets Excellent leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with strong attention to detail Strong communication and interpersonal skills
