Lansglade Homes Limited currently have a vacancy for an experienced Registered General Nurse to work in one of our Nursing Homes in Bedford, providing an excellent standard care to our Elderly Residents.

Key Objectives of the Role



To support the Home Manager and Senior Nurse in providing leadership to the care team and all ancillary staff. Taking charge of the home when required. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate an appropriate programme of nursing care for residents who are frail and elderly and with a wide range of co-morbidities. To assist the Home Manager in setting and maintaining high standards of care that mirror the homes policies, procedures and philosophy of care. To provide a high standard of clinical care within the home and participate and contribute to the teaching requirements of all staff. To participate in setting, maintaining and monitoring care and nursing standards.

Main Roles and Responsibilities



To lead a team of care staff that provides excellence in clinical practice, and ensures that residents rights to privacy, dignity, choice, autonomy and safety are actively promoted at all times. To understand the value of and promote a stimulating and enriching environment conducive to the wellbeing of residents, for whom the home is their long term place of residence i.e. their home. To demonstrate effective communication skills with residents, their families and friends providing information and advice as appropriate. To facilitate the admission and discharge of residents, liaising with other agencies to ensure continuity of care between hospital and community. To ensure the safekeeping of residents property and valuables in accordance with the Homes policy and procedures. To facilitate and engage in positive working relationships with GP's and the wider multidisciplinary team, including hospitals, acting as the residents advocate where necessary to ensure the best outcomes. To undertake, in partnership with the resident where ever possible, the assessment of their care needs and develop care plans and risk assessments to suit their individual nursing and care needs. To undertake all appropriate aspects of nursing care required, having gained the appropriate training and supervision. To undertake all care procedures and practice in accordance with the homes policies and the current Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures. To be fully aware of all agreed emergency procedures and be prepared to take a lead role in any acute or non-clinical emergency, in the absence of more senior staff or until specialist assistance arrives.

Management



In the absence of the Home Manager or Senior Nurse, whilst on duty, to be responsible for the running of the home, ensuring that there are sufficient staff to carry out all duties whist ensuring the Home continues to provide a safe and secure environment for residents and staff. To follow the homes policy regarding any complaint received from a resident, relative, professional or any other visitor to the home. To demonstrate effective time management and leadership skills and work closely with the Home Manager to develop own managerial skills. To ensure all procedures are correctly followed and accurate up to date written records are kept that accurately reflect the care given by both nursing and care staff. To participate in the induction, mentorship, teaching and supervision of care and ancillary staff. To liaise efficiently and effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, including the pharmacy to ensure that supplies are available and relevant to the needs of the home and its residents.

Clinical Governance



To be aware of current legislation and to have an understanding of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the Fundamental Standards of Quality and Safety as set out by the Care Quality Commission. To take responsibility for own professional development and act as an effective role model. To be aware of the NMC Code of Conduct and all of the Homes policies and procedures. To ensure that all medications, including controlled drugs are ordered, stored, administered and disposed of in accordance with the Homes Policy and the NMC and CQC guidance on drug administration. To discuss current performance and future development needs with the Home Manger as part of the supervision and appraisal system. To keep up to date with relevant research and developments in practice, attending relevant study days identified through the appraisal process or as part of mandatory training. Maintain a professional portfolio as part of the revalidation process alongside your PIN number. Ensure all health and safety requirements are met and all accidents and incidents are recorded reported to the Home Manger. To be responsible for own health and safety and that of anybody else within the home whilst you are on duty. To implement and participate in internal audits and other quality systems to maintain and continuously improve standards of care through a culture of continuous quality improvement. Understand and ensure the implementation of the Home's Health and Safety, Infection Control and Hygiene policies, and Emergency and Fire procedures. Report to the Home Manager, or the Maintenance Team any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard. Contribute to the safeguarding of adults by ensuring you are aware of your role in relation to the company's Safeguarding Adults Policy, taking steps to protect residents from any form of abuse or neglect and use the appropriate reporting systems to inform the homes management of any concerns.

To maintain confidentiality at all times. To carry out any reasonable duties as requested by the Home Manager. Adhere to al company policies and procedures.
