Job Title



Registered Manager - Hospital Avoidance Service (Young People with Additional Needs)

Job Purpose


The Registered Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management and leadership of the Hospital Avoidance Service, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care and support for young people with additional needs. The role will focus on preventing unnecessary hospital admissions by providing safe, responsive, and outcome-focused care in the community.

Responsibilities



Provide strong and effective leadership to the team, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability. Ensure the service is compliant with all relevant regulations, including Ofsted, CQC, safeguarding legislation, and local authority requirements. Develop and oversee personalised care and support plans, working closely with young people, their families, and multi-agency partners. Maintain robust systems for monitoring quality, performance, and risk management, with a focus on continuous improvement. Manage staffing levels, recruitment, training, supervision, and appraisal to ensure the team has the skills and resilience required. Ensure effective budget management and contribute to strategic planning and service development. Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the service, promoting a culture of safety and wellbeing at all times. Lead on audits, inspections, and reporting, ensuring transparency and a focus on best practice. Build positive working relationships with health, education, and social care partners to deliver a coordinated approach.

Requirements:



Essential



Registered Manager qualification (Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care, or equivalent within a children's setting). Proven experience in managing services for young people with additional needs, ideally within a health, social care, or residential setting. Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and regulatory frameworks. Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills. Ability to work under pressure, manage competing demands, and make sound decisions. Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.

Desirable



Experience in hospital avoidance, crisis intervention, or step-down services. Knowledge of local authority and NHS commissioning arrangements. Understanding of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support approaches.
