Purpose of the Role:
The Registered Manager will be responsible for the overall management and leadership of the nursing home, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations. The postholder will lead by example, promoting a culture of compassion, professionalism, and continuous improvement to ensure residents receive safe, effective, and person-centred care.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management
Provide strong, visible leadership to all staff, promoting a positive and supportive working environment.
Ensure effective recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal, and training of staff in line with company policies.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous professional development among all team members.
Manage rotas effectively to maintain safe staffing levels at all times.
2. Regulatory Compliance
Maintain full compliance with the
Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014
and other relevant legislation.
Ensure the service meets or exceeds the
CQC's Fundamental Standards of Quality and Safety
.
Prepare for and participate in CQC inspections, local authority audits, and other external reviews.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and documentation as required by law and internal policy.
3. Quality and Clinical Governance
Develop, implement, and monitor quality assurance systems to continuously improve service delivery.
Ensure the effective assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of person-centred care plans.
Investigate and respond to incidents, complaints, and safeguarding concerns promptly and professionally.
Work closely with external professionals (GPs, district nurses, social workers, etc.) to ensure coordinated care.
4. Financial and Operational Management
Manage the home's budget effectively, ensuring financial viability while maintaining quality standards.
Monitor occupancy levels and promote the home through positive relationships with families and the local community.
Ensure effective management of resources, including equipment, supplies, and maintenance.
Provide regular operational and financial reports to the Directors.
5. Resident and Family Engagement
Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for residents and their families.
Ensure that residents' dignity, privacy, independence, and choices are respected at all times.
Handle complaints and feedback constructively, ensuring lessons are learned and shared.
6. Health & Safety
Ensure the home is maintained in a safe, clean, and hygienic condition in line with infection control and health & safety standards.
Conduct regular risk assessments and ensure all staff are trained in emergency and safeguarding procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
At least
2 years of experience
in a managerial role within a care or nursing home setting.
In-depth knowledge of CQC regulations and the Health and Social Care Act.
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Desirable:
Registered Nurse (RGN/RMN/RNLD) qualification with active NMC registration.
Proven track record of achieving a "Good" or "Outstanding" CQC rating.
Experience managing budgets and occupancy targets.
